The father from the Killing has been released from prison and is the captain of a ferry. Meanwhile, the big bloke from Prison Shift has escaped and is masquerading as the chief of police.

Recorded the first two ep's but only watched the first one. It's ok, so I'll probably continue with it for awhile.

The scriptwriters seem to have an exaggerated idea of what a ships masters powers actually are. If police, immigration or customs want to search the ship they can just do it without needing a search warrant from the ships country of registry and as for discharging passengers or cargo without permission - forget it.

Who were the cycling group in Reykjavik in the last episode?  It was a brief night shot while the helicopter heroes were saying it was much to dangerous to fly;  the cyclists were riding proper bikes with good lights and scattered all over the road just like an Audax peleton :)

Surely there must be at least one Icelandic rider here who can tell us!

there's a very long thread about 'trapped' on the grauniad site, some of it explains this.  it's to do with what flag the ship is flying iirc.
I haven't quite worked out what time of day is daylight and what's really the middle of the night.

I was wondering about that peloton too.

Theis Birk Larsen is definitely a wrong'un.  And the Lithunian baddie's day job is fronting the Foo Fighters.  And I think the National Crime Squad cop with the moustache may have been Reece Shearsmith's TA oppo in "Spaced".

I think I found the thread you refer to and waded through the comments ( ten minutes of my life I'll never get back ;D)

Unless you're a warship in commission when different rules apply a vessel is bound by the laws of the jurisdiction it is berthed in. If the local laws allow searching of property with only a local warrant (or no warrant) then that applies to to visiting vessels no matter what their flag of registration. If a crime is committed or suspected the local police don't have to apply to the authorities in Liberia or Panama or whoevers tax laws are currently the laxest. I've seen visiting yachts being boarded with no warning - even been intercepted myself once.

In any case a ships master will always cooperate with the shore authorities - he/she usually has to go back there.

"Warming up nicely" is perhaps the wrong phrase to use but I've reached the end of ep. 4 now and am rather getting into it.

Still enjoying it … but … maybe it's because it's filmed darkly, or maybe it's an 'age' thing, but … I'm beginning to ask my wife: "Who's she?" And: "Is she the one who was bonking?" "Which one's Guirmunder?"

Following the subtitles AND listening to the dialogue, I'm amazed how bonkers Icelandic is. I've yet to hear Andri actually sound like Andri, rather than Shgsll or something equally unpronounceable. Tak seems Scandinavianbly universal, as does Nay.

Certainly worth watching although like Riggers it's never going to tempt me into trying to learn Icelandic.

I'm glad Andri got his starter motor fixed though. That was starting to worry me ;D

Dr Larrington will be disappointed with the repair to Andri's motor - she was convinced it was going to be a major plot device.  OTOH it still could be and Andri will spend the last two episodes hunting down Kiddi with a torque wrench in his hand and a vengeful gleam in his eye.

I'm beginning to ask my wife: "Who's she?" And: "Is she the one who was bonking?" "Which one's Guirmunder?"

We now never watch programmes with this amount of intellectual challenge in real time.  The recorder starts up at the beginning of the episode, and we start watching about a minute later, with lots of rewinding to answer those annoying little questions about whether we saw her with him 5 minutes ago and was the arsonist holding (a) an ice pick (b) a shovel (c) a walking stick.  We can usually make out the men from the women, but finer differentiation requires more investigation with the rewinder.

And never trust anyone who wears a yellow jacket.

^ er … that's what we're doing too, but hasn't stopped confusion on my part.

We've now caught up and watched 8 out of 10. Phew! Seems to me EVERYBODY is implicated with whatever's going on.

The only people I think are innocent are Andri (obv) and Hjörtur (who's just guilty of being a bit of a dick), but then I've only reached the end of ep. 4.  I wouldn't be surprised if Perla is in it up to her eyeballs, the horrid little beast.

Andri & Agnes' younger daughter, the one who spends most of her time tormenting the unfortunate Maggi.

The writers seem so sling red herrings about with abandon. When the yoof held their pool party I was sure someone was going to end up raped or murdered. As it is they seem to have all escaped with minor hangovers.

Not even sure how many crimes are being investigated and by whom.

The girl who was burned to death at the start of ep1 - Andri's Sil or sister? no ones put much effort into that so far. Trudi or whatever his name is has got a confession for the chopped up body and the incinerated mayor but no one else is convinced. The people trafficing - again not much interest. What is the "cargo" that the ferry captain and engineer agreed the ship couldn't leave without? The third policeman Asgeir? is hiding something as well.

Just watched ep. 5 and something is Wrong.  Beating people over the head with Mr Shovel and then setting them on fire is what mayors do, not have done to them >:(
