anyone tried getting a GPX off viamichelin?
« on: 30 January, 2010, 03:09:00 pm »
I just plotted the shortest route between 2 points on VM and it comes up with it; there is an option to save it as a GPX so I did this.

It asks what GPS you have so I put in Garmin and saved it. However when I open it on Mapsource I get the start and finish as Waypoints but no discernable track or route between them. Am I doing something wrong?

I've had a play with it and I think that the viamichelin functionality assumes that you will be uploading the route to a GPS with auto routing.  I think that's why it only chucks out the key waypoints.

so did I ; just kept the VM route open and transcribed it onto Mapsource; it came out slightly shorter anyway

What a pointless bit of functionality, it basically just converts your start and end locations into a lat and long.  It's hardly a challenging job to do this without their website. :-\
Actually, it is rocket science.
