Blackie has despatched a rodent in our lounge.
D can't see it but I KNOW it's there.
First I heard squeaking, then I saw Blackie playing with a dark brown furry thing, that did not move very fast.
Can't hear anything now...

Poor mouse is still alive and squeaking...
... but David has taken it outside.

Blackie is searching for mouse.

D  is upset at injured hand.

One benefit of long-time cat ownership is that I have ninja mouse catching reflexes. I grab them by the tail, hoist them up, and if they're looking bitey, spin them a little. Once you have a good hold of their tail, there's not a lot they can do but hang there and admit defeat. Then I take them outside, release them somewhere where the cats can't possibly find them.

Then about twenty minutes later I do it all again with what looks suspiciously like the very same mouse.

Standing and staring at a bloke (not a local) who has had the temerity to sit in HER seat in the pub.  Everyone else (the locals) are doing an impression of an H M Bateman cartoon.

Big Tom is playing with the Dreamies 'mouse' dispenser.
We bought this toy nearly two years ago. It entertained the kittens.
Blackie has always enjoyed this thing but Big Tom ignored it till last week.
I don't think Tom has left any Dreamies for Blackie...

Ezra's leaking.  Poor chap has urinary retention every so often, from infection or muscle spasm we don't know.  I've got a bunch of pills from the vet - antispasmodic, antibiotic and anti-inflammatory - so we'll start dosing him this evening and hope.  Not sure why he's leaking - sphincter overstressed or something - but it's not serious and we're hoping it'll clear up PDQ. It usually does.

Looking on the bright side, at least he's got something in common with Tycho Brahe.

I thought Tycho Brahe's issue was that he DID NOT leak and 'held on' (out of embarrassment) until his bladder ruptured...

Not out of embarrassment but politeness, according to Arthur Koestler: you didn't get up to pee when dining with the King, and when he finally got home he couldn't.  No, the thing with Ezra was - note 'was' - that he could only pee with great difficulty but seemed to be leaking drops indoors.  We dosed him last night & he seems fine this morning, but of course having started antibiotics he's on them for a fortnight.  He'd probably have been OK with just the antispasmodic and a urinary tract disinfectant, but the vet simply repeated the previous prescription.  The last two or three times he (Ezra, not the vet) had this his prostate was been normal, BTW.

Big Tom is sprawled sleeping on David's printer.

Which is a nuisance as we have a note to the optometrist to print.

Big Tom has gone out for some fresh air.
I seem to have shut him into the downstairs loo between my last two visits.

Gerrard le chat noir has let me pick him up and cuddle him for the first time since I adopted him at the end of September. He purred too. When I have tried it before he's meowed loudly and the batter me when I put him down. It's a big step forward.

Pooping a lot. The usual Bad Cat dirty protest post-cattery has been going on for some time (she usually goes outside, but after a spell of incarceration she takes a while to kick the litter tray habit). Two weeks later she's still dropping her bombs indoors and not just once a day and not of a pleasant composition. All the delights of interior chemical warfare.

Glancing online about kitty pooping periodicity, I noted that one article prominently featured the phrase do not be tempted to give your cat an enema. I think that's up there with kicking ticking bombs and gargling nerve agents. It's not a temptation I've ever faced.

Another trip to the vets beckons.

Neither cat has much interest in wet food at the moment.

The larger Lab has finally ceased vomiting.  He must have picked up a bug or eaten something even more disgusting than usual outside, and for the past three days his last meal has ended up decorating whatever he's lying on or beside: two dog-bed cushions, a rug in our bedroom and at various stages more easily washable surfaces.  I was all ready to take a sample & call the vet this morning but all was well. Touch wood.
