Make your own tahini to go in you home made humus:

This looks easy I think I might give it a go.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Water-based hummus will last a week

You'll be lucky if it lasts 24 hours in my house.

It is. You need a decent powerful blender, and take care not to over-roast the seeds.

I STILL don't fancy the mint & chocolate dessert hummus about which I posted a couple of Christmases ago...
I've just made some chocolate peanut butter beetroot hummus, I think it is quite tasty. Maybe not much like hummus, more like a chocolate spread.

Regular beetroot hummus is also great (and a lovely purple colour). Can do half chickpea/half beetroot, or just beetroot. Plus the usual tahini, oil, garlic, spices etc.

I'm sure chickpeas are bland enough to take any flavour really; They don't have much intrinsic flavour.

The best mass produced hummus I have had in ages is Mr Dips.

Making my own hummus I just drain a tin on chickpeas, give them a rinse in the tin, stick it in to the food processor then add a couple of table spoons of tahini and then anything from pitted olives or sun dried tomatoes or just overripe tomatoes.  Then maybe smoked paprika or chilli powder or chilli flakes.  Usually a shot of olive oil, last one I added a shot of pomegranite molasses and it was lovely.
