Sax practice has resumed.  I cant play with cold fingers.....

Who knew?

One of the good things about playing tuba is that it's possible to play in reasonably chunky gloves - coupled with a plastic mouthpiece, even better!

When it gets really cold, I just break out the bass trombone and ski mittens - one of the bonuses of being a low brass multi-instrumentalist!  ;) :D

Until it gets cold enough to freeze the valves solid. The soft southern band I used to play with were in Germany one winter (visit to a twinned town) and only the cornets and flugel could play more than five notes as the valves and slides on the rest were frozen solid.

A friend of mine in the USA tells the story of the time his university marching band were playing at a football game in sub-zero temperatures (Fahrenheit!) and the entire sousaphone section's valves froze solid, just before half time.
A quick discussion ascertained that different players had different valve combinations set solid and that the full range of different combinations were available - so they played all the notes that they could, a bit like a bell choir. Apparently no one else in the band even noticed that there was a problem!

A dusting in Darlo, but the ground's so cold that it's laying.
Gone from nothing to relatively heavy in last 5 minutes.
I was planning to cycle to work today but given the amount of water on the roads yesterday and the sharp frost I felt discretion was sensible so drove.  decision vindicated!

Just started snowing here on The Wolds. Its laying too.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

First snow of the season here, though it’s that horrid wet stuff so I doubt the children will be getting a snow day and going off sledging.
For every complex problem in the world, there is a simple and easily understood solution that’s wrong.

Cold and showery here. I got wet when out on the bike yesterday pm. 4°C. We've only had 3mm rain, so still a very dry month overall (23.3mm).

I went out to Tool Station an hour or so ago - I got sleeted on.
I'm still in shorts.

Bristol has its first, and probably last, snow of the winter.

Sudden blizzard in Brum.  Won't amount to anything, I'm sure.

Some tiny flakes of white stuff falling from the sky. Not really big enough to call snow, and not dense enough to call hail.   It won't stick though.

There was a proper blizzard here, with driving winds and horizontal snow.

For about five minutes. Then it all melted.

Woke up to a patchy white garden. Snowing now (North Kent).

Can we go back to spring, please?
There's no vibrations, but wait.
