Well I've been impressed so far.

I agree with CB on watching the men's pursuit when he said he did not enjoy watching it!  Talk about a measured performance, brilliant in every way.  Gold and WR.  Wow!

Well I did enjoy it - a bit of tension can be good fun :)

(But I didn't like the other CB's comments in the build up - something like "Sir Wiggo is riding to his 8th GOld Medal, breaking the record of ... blah ... "

No Claire; he was COMPETING for a Gold Medal. Not remotely a certainty. 4 highly trained and motivated athletes trying to stop him.

Oops, that would be the reason for the worrying gap right at the end

"It was a scrappy one," said Doull. "I changed and hadn't heard a shout for three. I changed expecting four guys and turned down and there were two. I was down the track, giving everything trying to get back on that wheel. I just thought I could never forgive myself if I didn't get on and it cost us the win."

Ooh, interesting! A reminder that its certainly not just about big engines and pain thresholds.

Meanwhile - is my maths right; the short distance boys are typically doing over 40mph?!?

[don't know any wimmins numbers, but they're probably pretty close too!]

That is about right. Cruising speed on the track is about 50kph for mortal folk with racing speeds noticeably quicker.

Pretty surprised Cav didn't face any sanctions following the crash he was involved in during the Omnium points race...

The angle you see it from on the tele is slightly misleading. The Korean had overlapped Cav and moved up towards him whilst looking the other way, just as Cav who was almost a bike length clear moved down. Viviani claimed it was not Cav's fault but a racing incident.

If Cav was to be penalised, then the move where Viviani put Boudet into the infield (the difference being that Boudet was looking where he was going and was able to take avoiding action) would also be subject to sanction.

I was reduced to listening on the radio and it sounded like a tense situation after the race until it was eventually confirmed.

One of those things that happens on the track - you see a gap or wheel, glance behind for a quick check then make your move just at the same time as someone from the blind spot moves into the space. I've had a few offs in the past in the same way.

The chip on his shoulder makes up for it.
