Useful Firefox plugins
« on: 16 July, 2008, 07:52:17 am »
Inspired by Sgt Pluck's request for backup advice, I thought it might be useful (judging by the number of users on here that seem to prefer using FF) to have a list of recommended plugins for Firefox, you know, the ones you just can't live without now.

I'll start the ball rolling with Foxmarks (Home | Foxmarks), quite simply it allows you to have the same bookmarks at home and work, and synchronise between them.  You can also access your bookmarks from anywhere in the world, via the web frontend that foxmarks provides.

Well worth a look

+1 for foxmarks

Adblock Plus is another good one.  (I'm such a hypocrite, look at all the ads on my own website).

From a recommendation here I like FireFTP and also a plugin that allows PDFs to be open by Acrobat in a separate process and not inframe.

Yes, Foxmarks and Adblock.

Add also:

DownThemAll! (mass downloading program)

and

British English Dictionary (prevents those irritating little moments when your spelling is queried)
There's no vibrations, but wait.

+1 to both of those and Adblock, plus

DePhormation (dodge that nastiness !)
CustomizeGoogle (tho' Google seems to be fighting back :))
Better Gmail
User Agent Switcher (for those irritating sites that complain that you have a "non-standard (ie Non-MS) browser")
Met Office Weather Gadget

and for the slightly more geeky:

Greasemonkey
Firebug
DOM Inspector

Long titles, which prevents long tooltips being cut short, tho this should be sorted in Firefox 3.

Scrap book is really useful.  Basically it'll save webpages for you, which is brilliant if you do internet shopping because you can save the confirmation pages.

And another vote for Adblock.
What on earth am I doing here on this beautiful day?! This is the only life I've got!!

IE tab: handy for the odd page that won't work in Firefox.

Tab Mix Plus. Makes using tabs a lot easier, but you'll need the development version for FF3.

CSLite for Cookie Control,  Tab Catalogue which gives you a thumbnail of each open tab.

PicLens is good but doesn't work under Ubuntu.

+ 1 for DownThemAll - very useful

I also love all-in-one-gestures - it allows you to navigate the web very quickly.
