Another memorable cricketer from my young adulthood. I know I watched him at least once, at the B&H final in 1979. That wasn’t to be his day as Essex notched up 290 and Graham Gooch (120) and Ken McEwan (72) were especially severe on him. That was the first trophy Essex won.

I watched Surrey play at least once more, in a low-scoring Gillette Cup match at Chelmsford. They won that one on a tie-break as the scores were level at the close. My memory tells me they got 136 each but I will try to confirm that.

Edit: Surrey 195/7. Essex 195 all out. Jackman 5/22 and Man of the Match. 1980.
