I misheard a commentator's remark during the France-Ireland game. I thought he referred to an Irish player named Kiernan, but it was Keenan. It prompted me to find Tom Kiernan, who was, at the time of his retirement in 1973, the most capped Irish player and their leading points scorer, and part of the furniture of the home internationals when I first took an interest in rugby. I found that Tom had died earlier this month, aged 83.
