Football World Cup 2022
« on: 20 November, 2022, 03:52:37 pm »
Is the reason this thread hasn't been started here (don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to start it, my interest in football is zero) because the current World Cup is more about politics and other stuff which have bugger all to do with the sport?

Probably not started because those of us who are interested in football will discuss it elsewhere rather than here where people who aren't interested would feel the need to constantly pollute the thread with reminders to everyone that they're not interested!
Those wonderful norks are never far from my thoughts, oh yeah!

Well I have just seen parts of the opening game between Qatar and Ecuador,. frankly Qatar are the worst team I have seen at a WC in ages. Embarrassing, but no more than their masters deserve but I won't bring the politics into this thread.

Alan

Indeed. I was contemplating starting a poll to canvas how many yacfers are watching, but I figured it won't tell me anything I don't already know.

Similarly, I mostly go elsewhere to discuss football, but fwiw, I'm not watching. I have limited interest in international football at the best of times, certainly no devotion to the England football team, and I just don't want to get involved in the circus.

Damn. England's match is about to start and it's tipping it down outside. I was looking forward to going for a ride on those nice clear roads.

I think the answer is the medical team doing the assessment isn't independent which is clearly should be. However like you despite having no medical training more then a first aid course and watching on TV I could have told you he wasn't fit

Argentina were winning 1:0 when I stooped watching at half time and had had another 3 disallowed for offside. They were hammering KSA. Cant believe the final score.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Budweiser have announced they'll give the beer they now cannot sell in stadiums to the eventual winners. I guess they're counting on KSA's result being a fluke and IRI's not.

At work tomorrow we can watch the Germany match and the boss will bring us pizzas.

I wasn’t planning to watch but with free pizza on offer I shall!,

The UFWC* is up for grabs in this morning's Morocco v Croatia match, Croatia being the current holders of the title (even though they probably don't realise it, bless 'em).

* Unofficial Football World Championship, in which the holders are determined in the same way as in boxing. If you beat the champion, you get the title until you are beaten. First contested, indecisively, in Glasgow in 1872, although the definitive set of rules and records only started in 2003.

We can watch (& listen to) all the matches at work as long as your other screen has something work-looking on it, you're wearing headphones, and the big boss doesn't come in
