Well, I've got New Model Army for the first and The Levellers for the third.  There are any number for Nobody's Fool but unless one of the singers hales from a place with the name of a Civil War battle, then I'm stymied. Actually, I'm stymied anyway but it's a good question!  I'm going to be on radio silence for a bit, if anyone else wants to have a crack.

Yup.  The other one was a little-known Britpop band called The Diggers.  I was hoping Peter might have made the connection.

So the Diggers were an offshoot of the Levellers, who were a faction of the New Model Army.

None of them have won the Olympic 400 metres hurdles (although I'm not absolutely certain about Chas and Dave).

Presumably not the Olympics, then!  So, have they all played some unexpected venue (Batley Variety or Glasgow) or sponsored a charity - something like that?

Batley Variety was a top venue in its day, and Glasgow can hardly be considered unexpected. Well, not in that sense at least. But no.
