Too quick!

Happily, George Martin dropped the idea of calling Please Please Me "Off the Beatle Track"

Over to you….

OK.  Other than being lead singers, what links the lead singers of this disparate set of bands?

Genesis

The Famous Flames

Foo Fighters

May be easy.  Not sure.

I don't know the Famous Flames but I seem to recall that Peter Gabriel started out playing drums… as did one Dave Grohl, so that would be my guess.

Pete Gabriel is not a drummer.  Well, he's a multi-instrumentalist, so probably does play drums, though he wasn't the drummer for Genesis.

Dave Grohl was a drummer, true.

Keep going...

Phil Collins is said to be a drummer and he was lead singer of Genesis.

;D  I like that.  but why do you say

, whereas you accept his ludicrous claims to be a singer at face value? ;D

Definitely on the right lines now.  Does nobody know who The Famous Flames are?  Or, crucially, who they were billed as backing for (eventually)?

Well, that bit's easy - James Brown.  I'm not aware that he was a drummer, though he did replace Troy (I think) COLLINS when he joined that group.

Ha!  I didn't even know that. :D

But who was the Famous Flames' drummer when they changed from being a vocal band?

Well, hush my mouth - it seems it was none other than the afore-mentioned James Brown!

:D :D :D

I was prompted to this by a video of the Famous Flames I was watching with TGL on my phone while we were washing up (isn't technology a marvellous thing? :D) in which Mr Brown, after collapsing alarmingly onstage several times, and having a cape draped around him before being led to the side of the stage, where his sheer determination to continue overcame his debilitating condition in a somewhat heroic fashion, took a short break by sitting down on the edge of the band riser, then taking over the sticks duties for a short while.  TGL was surprised, so I told him that JB had been a drummer, just like Dave Grohl...

Well, that was rather a team effort, with all three of you putting the work in, but, purely because of posting first, I'll award that to Redlight, despite only getting one of the singers right.

Well,

He's a really good drummer (and producer for that matter) pity they let him sing though.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

I think he is a good drummer, and quite an innovative producer.  Just a bit of a tosser with a whiny voice and whiny opinions.

Oh - and he is still guilty of Not Being Peter Gabriel.

He gets forgiven everything though for playing drums on Grace and Danger as well as keeping John Martyn from imploding completely and then producing Glorious Fool.

I hereby claim my victory - although in the interest of pedantry (who, me?) will mention that in an interview for the BBC's Classic Albums series, Peter Gabriel explains his interest in rhythm by stating that before he was a singer he was a drummer - not professionally, of course. And I have, on one occasion, seen him playing drums with Genesis.

Another question to follow soon….
Why should anybody steal a watch when they can steal a bicycle?

OK, rather than let this drop too far down the list, shall I share the little bit that I know.

I think it's Someone Saved My Life Tonight by Elton John (lyrics by Bernie Taupin, but I think it's about an event in Elton's life), although it's not about a suicide, but, rather, a metaphorical loss of life.   Anyway, that meantions a Sugar Bear (who is the 'someone'), but I don't know who that was.

Someone might be able to pick it up from there (assuming I'm right so far).

In the absence of any takers, Clarion is right.  John was on the verge of getting married and was talked out of it by Long John Baldry (in whose band he had played) who helped him to accept his homosexuality.  On the original Captain Fantastic album, the lyrics to Someone Saved My Life Tonight bear the note: With thanks to LJB.

I guess that leaves it to me to come up with another more interesting question

Redlight, your question was perfectly interesting, so much so that  I researched and found the answer but didn't feel I should post it.  Please come up with another!
