pcolbeck had the detail.  I just had the patchy info that was lurking in a cobwebby backroom of my mind.

redlight, never mind the D'Abo/Jones glitch, that was a great question, though one I personally had no chance with as the release of that record passed me by and Heaven 17 didn't trouble my leisure hours.  But there were enough other red herrings with the Pauls and Paulas to keep everyone happy!  If it wasn't so "modern" it would be a great question for Round Britain Quiz.  Excellent!

Peter

PS Your reference to Sheffield clubs was a good hint, too!

Yeah, that was fun, if frustrating.  And amusing that my mistake about the Manfreds was actually right! ;D

I should have got it quicker, as I was actually involved in the mid-80s Sheffield music scene :-[

I'm really sorry about that, C; how are you now?

Just yesterday, I managed to impress someone with my experiences of a small band called Pulp. :D

Oddly, they weren't so interested in tales of The Enzymes. ???

Who dedicated what to Jerry, Tom, Oscar and Tiffany?

Henry Mancini won an oscar for the music for Breakfast at Tiffiniy's and wrote the music for Tom and Jerry the Movie.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Maybe, but that's not what I was looking for. My answer is much more straightforward.

An irritating ear worm on this morning's ride got me thinking about resurrecting this thread (while still wondering who Tiffany and Oscar were, assuming Tom and Jerry were Paul and Artie).

Which drummer turned singer and songwriter provides the link between Supertramp and folk legend Martin Carthy, and why?

No googling :-)

My question still stands! And nothing in pcolbeck's suggestion was relevant.

The problem with the previous question is that everyone assumes they are people :-)

Why should anybody steal a watch when they can steal a bicycle?

It was Freddie Mercury but I can't remember what he dedicated to his cat (Jerry) and the other bods.

Hooray.  You get to set the next question and I'll save mine for another day, when I've worked one out :-)

Which Scottish singer/songwriter recorded an album with Ian Rankin and had a lover who left him for the Dalai Lama's bodyguard?

Cool.  I couldn't find anything about the Dalai Lama's bodyguard bit, but I was pretty sure there was an album, cause they talked about it on radio 4.
