A pianist friend has told us of a forthcoming performance and has his 'fingers crossed' on Facebook.

I am no pianist but thought he'd better uncross them.

"A woman in her 80s suffered life-threatening injuries when her car crashedshe drove her car through the wall of a hotel."

My sympathy for drivers who kill themselves is always mitigated by relief that they didn't kill anyone else in the process.

Must have been terrifying for the hotel receptionist. Lucky they were unharmed.

If you find your saddle and seat post gone, you probably assume they've been stolen to be sold on ebay or whatever. It could be a bit more sinister: https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol-news/men-jailed-after-vicious-bus-3194710

Both Clarke and Virtue continue walking but the video shows them stop, turn and run towards the bus shelter and begin ferociously beating Mr Pellowe.

The men each had a bicycle saddle and pole attached with which they caused injuries to the victims head and neck.

Just as well we don't have quick release chainsets.

This is not the place for me to discuss causes of crashes.

The hotel is on a busy dual carriageway.

The crash occurred at check-out time.

I'm also relieved nobody else was injured.

Of course. And no judgment on your reaction is implied in my comment.

All I’m saying is the car wasn’t driving itself.

An original Selly Oak (Centro era) station sign arrived from fleaBay.  I used to pass it every working day and now it's going on my garden wall.  It's about 5 feet long.

Our hall wall is protected from marking by bicycles by a street sign for Primrose Hill Road that Camden were junking when they updated their logo from GREEN  London Borough of Camden to ORANGE Camden.

SO lives in Blandford Court.  The council have just put up a shiny new street sign.  It says BLANFORD COURT.  This will bed in a skip soon...

Crikey, has Arlene been round to see them?  "About your kneecaps..."

Every evening or so I peruse the BBC news app on our 'smart' TV (try getting it to cook dinner, it's not that smart) and it's amazing what cars get up to, they're out of control. I pity the poor drivers who are victims of these wildly errant machines.

Just back from seeing the back specialist about my, er, back. I thought you might like a comment of his regarding cycling which, is an excellent exercise for bad backs it seems. Anyway, it seems that riding 14 miles which I did with a bit of a struggle on Sunday is: "a long way."

I did not have the heart to tell him about PBP.....  ;D

Untold years ago (well, 2005) I did a course on organizing rides for the general public.  One of the stats the instructor started off with was that 90% of people thought that 20 km was a long ride.

I'm glad you said 'combat purposes' there. It's a sentence that could have easily veered.

Riding a concrete path through the nebulous and chaotic future.

I've seen kids in Liverpool remove seatposts & belt each other over the head before, so it would seem to be a well known technique.

Is that why heavy locks come with a frame mount?  :demon:

The D shaped ones that can be held by the central locking bit allowing you to spin the metal shackle out in a way that reminds me of the Tonfa katas I used to practice ?  O:-)

I got an email from a Megan Force today. For one brief, deliciously fearful moment, I thought I had been hunted down by a squad of feminist vigilantes for some absent-minded sexist comment I'd made a decade before. Anyway, it wasn't. Phew.

That is a great name, though must be hard to live up to.

The entire Force family is, ahem, a force to be reckoned with in USAnian drag racing.  Patriarch John has been Funny Car champion 16 times, three of his daughters (Ashley, Courtney and Brittany) are current or former competitors and the eldest, Adria, is CFO of John Force Racing.
