Fastastic photos of the solar system

Just.  Wow.

I'm not sure which is most awesome.  The bruise-a-delic Io is great, the rings are magnificent, but the aurora rings on Saturn are staggering and the Rover looking at its own landing site gives me that "man in spaaaace!" tingle.
It takes blood and guts to be this cool but I'm still just a cliché.

This one really should be there. I still think it's totally awesome.

I see moons too.

Brilliant!

and to think we are only seeing them because:

1) they are there
2) we are here

What a wonder this universe is.

Puts the credit crunch into perspective, doesn't it!
It is simpler than it looks.

Oh dear.  I've been spoiled by watching too much Star Trek and seeing too many SF book covers to truly appreciate that these images are real.

The fic just totally fades in comparison.

And these are just our local neighbours.  Just the kids on our block.

Infra-red aurora saturnalis ...

Those Martian rocks look sedimentary.  (= water, or at least, lots of liquid for a long period of time ...)

Amazing images - thanks, Andy.

Lovely photos n'all that, and I specially like the way they've obliterated all the stars surrounding the main images so's not to be a distraction.
Certainly never seen cycling south of Sussex

Do I miss something here? Are you saying that you are skeptical?

Just in case you're being skeptical - the normal explanation holds; it is all a matter of contrast. Stars are really quite faint compared to planets. If you expose the image properly for the planet, you won't see any background stars (unless you get lucky and have a bright star in the background, but the chances of that are very small).

The one of the Martian probe descending on its parachute is my favourite, I remember when that was published.
We're part of a group studying the techniques required to study the Stardust samples, they're quite special too.
I've got bits of the Hubble Space telescope locked in my desk drawer for study at the moment too.
