Title: Sturmey Archer 8 speed
Post by: danteetnad on 09 April, 2021, 04:08:06 pm
Does anyone have any info or experience of the compatibility of newer model SA 8 speed twist grip shifters with an older 8sp X-RD8 hub?

I've an SA X-RD8 hub, from about 2005, but without a shifter. The compatible shifter acc to the Tech spec is HSJ911; TSS80 Shifter- no longer available, that i can find anyhow.

The newer 8 Speed, the SAX-RD8(W) has different shifter product codes, which are available: HSJ980 TSS86 or HSJ955 TSS82 (difference is the cable exit point from the twist grip)

Comparing the technical drawings of the older with the newer (W) version of the hub, they look fundamentlly different, so Im really wondering if the pull length of the newer twist grip would work for the older hub.

cheers Daniel
