Title: What kit to provide reliable teleconferencing for partners in LMICs
Post by: DrMekon on 26 July, 2019, 12:24:11 pm
I'm on a couple of projects that got significant GCRF (https://www.ukri.org/research/global-challenges-research-fund/) money. The PIs want to provide kit to partners in Bangladesh (Dhaka), India (Bangalore), Pakistan (Rawalpindi).

Power is an issue, so I thought something like a Goal Zero Yeti, plus 4g booster and a 4g router. I use a similar setuo in my motorhome so that my kids can do online gaming when we are on the road. I'd be confident of it in the EU but I've no idea whether this would work in SE Asia.

Longshot - any one have a source of 4g map coverage in Bangladesh, India and Paskitan or a view on whether this approach is sensible? I've worked on big projects before when my time was wasted by poor teleconferencing. This is too big a deal to fail, as large amounts of future funding are likely to come in if these projects are a success. Tips welcome.

Bangalore is like the Silicon Valley of India. They have fast reliable connections. We've had Cisco teleconference equipment for some time that has proved reliable. The offices have back up generators with 48 hours of fuel.
