A week of cycling, what to do?
« on: 30 January, 2012, 12:38:14 pm »
I have been told by my employer that I HAVE to take a week off between now and the end of March.

As I am already going overseas for two, seperate, weeks later in the year, any suggestions on what I should do with this week?

I work for $MEGA_CORP, as a contractor, so the downside is that if I don't work, I don't get paid :(

An Irish end-to-end.

An Irish end-to-end.

Now there is an interesting idea....

Either that or (for part of the week) get over my unfinished business with WoTR.

OK, so thinking it whilst out today I have decided to do a Home > Morecambe > Bridlington > Home over either 3 or 4 days.  At approx 360 miles it will set me up nicely for Catalonia in April.

I am thinking the first week in March, at the moment, with an overnight in Morecambe on Thursday night to start the tour.  This would mean the following:

Leave home Thursday morning, ride to Morecambe, on the WoTR route.
Overnight @ Travelodge Morecambe (can get a room for £19 currently)
Leave there at about 8AM on the Friday.
Go as far as I can (retracing the WoTR route)and find somewhere to stay near where I drop.
Do the rest of the route.
Return home.

I am thinking of doing something similar in May. Home - Morecombe - Hawes. Stay in a B+B. Then Hawes - Whitby. Stay the night in Whitby. Whitby - Home. 3 days of about 100 miles a day.

Might be a bit rushed, especially so early in the year: a loop comprised of the C2C and Hadrian's Wall routes.
;D  Andrij.  I pronounce you Complete and Utter GIT

Dependingo n wether it is the beginning or end of March I would have between 11 and 13 hours of daylight.  As we showed last year Morecambe to NTR is doable, easily, in 10 hours total (there was approx 1 1/2 rest stops in that time).

So setting off at 8AM would get me, probably, to York by dark.

Thanks for that, but I still need to take the time off ($MEGA_CORP needs to meet targets :( )

So a plan is showing itself.

Thursday 1/3, leave home and head for the hills, then onto Morecambe.

Night in Travelodge.

8AM Friday set off back towards the land of the living Yorkshire.

Overnight York or thereabouts (or might just keep riding through to Brid)

Head home Saturday.

Just hope my head ain't writing cheques my body can't cash :)
