Today, the Church celebrates the commemoration of Saints Cyril and Methodius.  To celebrate this I may have some very good chocolate.  Or a flapjack.

They were missionaries to the Slavs, and given the Gift of Tongues.

Oh, my.
I thought it was in the summer, but looking at wikip shows it's celebrated on various days in various places and various churches. Coincidentally, I had a chocolate-covered flapjack as tasty bike fuel yesterday!

Won the pub quiz tonight. Our team of two beat off the teams of four and five.

And the even better news was not a blue fart in sight!

Good stuff, JD!  OT, I see Forest Green are having a good season.  Am I right in thinking that unfortunately there is only promotion for the champions in the Conference;no play-offs?

Two teams go down from league 2, so two will come up from the football conference.  The champions, plus one from the play offs between the teams in 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th.
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

Cheers, Basil - we mourn Hartlepool.  Can you remember them applying for re-election about 20 years on the trot?!

That's actually one of Hartlepool's honours.  They have the record amount of re-elections to the old div4 or, further back, div3 North.
That record cannot be surpassed as that system no longer exists.

Their other "Honours":
Longest non scoring streak - This has probably been surpassed by now.
Only club1 not to have made it to the FA cup 5th round.   This has definitely gone.   :)  I was at Bramall Lane in 1993(?) when we lost, I think 1-0.   :(

1  The only club of a certain pedigree.  I can't remember what that was.

Yes, it is fairer now!

I think we have a chance of the play-offs, but no further this year. Although we are unbeaten so far this year. Maybe until tonight  ;D

I mourn Kettering Town for similar reasons.   Denied by the football league gestapo on many an occasion.  Now look how far they have sunk!   :(

Happy days. Not only is the cattery free to take the cats a week early (see the kitchen rant thread), but my neighbour is going on holiday that week, wants her cat fed and was up for Pingu cooking his tea in her flat while I'm in the land of Nog, and possibly also 2 weeks after that too. :)

The EldestCub is home from three days and two nights in/around Birmingham, at the Big Bang where he was part of a team taking part in the Nationals of the Vex Robotics competition.  There were two teams from his school there representing the region, his Y8 lot and a bunch of Y10s.

It sounds like the Y10s were placed 36th out of 40.  The Y8s at one point on day one were ranked 3rd, but dropped in the end to 15th.  I think that is more than respectable!

It's misty this morning. Not enough to be a problem, just enough to have that melancholy isolative beauty which mist can have. The mist obscured the view of the edge of the city from Kingsdown, whereas normally you can see all the way to Dundry hill. Not being able to see it today reminded me that normally I do and brings back, to an extent, that feeling of first sighting somewhere beautiful in the distance from somewhere in itself quite dull.

That and this morning's Kreisler, which - by coincidence, surely, it can't have been planned? - fitted the mood of the weather perfectly.

But the rule for Dundry, is that if you can't see it, its raining, and if you can see it its going to rain.
