Good news on several fronts today:

1) an invoice outstanding since beginning of Nov is being paid today, so the N+1 plans might get upped a bit
2) I had a second interview for a job in Brentford (honestly that is good news)
3) an old work colleague emailed me out of the blue, asking me if I would be interested in doing some work for the company he works for (which would mean I would be home every night!)

Just waiting for something bad to happen....

...and would be working in an establishment that gets not infrequent supplies of CrinklyCake.

I won an argument with Student Finance England today by insisting on increasing amounts of management involvement and logicking them into a corner where if they said A they were fucked and if they said B they were fucked leaving only one outcome which was give me what was right.

My student is delighted and I've had a face like  ;D all day!

I got my home insurance renewal quote today, which probably should be more in the bad new thread.

But I decided to shop around for home insurance based soley on the amount of included cycle cover. I found that M&S (as was recommended by another yacfer) gave me £4000 per bike cover at home or away, with no stupid lock clauses. All this for £100 a year less than my previous home insurance policy. It has the same excess, and same unlimited buildings and £50k contents cover with the same legal protection and emergencies cover.

So basically I now don't need to shell out £200 a year for bike insurance for my 3 most valuable bikes and I have saved £100.
I also will get £45 cash back for using a cashback website's link, and I can pay montly for no extra. I would say that is a good result

I finally got fed up with trying to persuade our ancient Bosch dishwasher to get stuff clean and ordered a Miele 1022 from Curry's. I got it at a knockdown price because there was a codey thing I had to type in which knocked 10% off the price.

We've had a Bosch washing machine and a Bosch dishwasher and I've been most unimpressed by them. Overpriced substandard shite.

You can't go wrong with a Miele

I currently have a Miele washing machine and vaccuum, and plan to replace stuff that breaks with Miele if I can afford it at the time :)

Aren't Bosch, Siemens and Miele all part of the same group?  I know for certain the first two are (which is which thier dishwashers look sooooo alike....)  Anyways we have no problem with out Bosch dishwasher, YMMV

No, as you say Bosch and Siemens are when it comes to appliances but Miele are independent.

Also, don't forget that Miele rhymes with Sheila.

The German pronunciation is as Greenbank says.
While we're at it, remember that "nike" has an eeta on the end and not an epsilon, so it's pronounced "Nigh-key"
