Title: Michelin restaurant tours
Post by: Tigerrr on 02 August, 2013, 02:26:46 pm
I may have posted this before but anyway:
Recently the kids bought me & mrs tiger a lunch at Petrus. It was a sublime experience - service at that level makes one feel so special.

But what struck me was the Chinese family at the table next to us. Clearly very wealthy. They were doing a 10 day tour of European michelin ** restaurants - lunch and dinner - and at each restaurant n the tour they get their certificate signed by the chef to prove it. Apparently the point is the certificate not the actual experience.

The SIL spent the meal on 2 mobiles simultaneously - texting and talking, which was odd. He ate the various elements of the meal as they arrived in one mouthful without looking at it.

'Strordinary.

Ooooh! A brevet card for those with more money than sense!
Methinks the LEL riders enjoyed their food more!

what a shame. A recent visit to Copenhagen was a delight, just enjoyed seeing into the kitchen of one of the range of Michelin starred establishments after a coffee and CAKE at the bakery next door.

I never understood why a tire company got into cuisine grading?

Maps. Why a map company got into tyres I'm not sure.

They didn't

It was a tyre company that started distributing free guides in an attempt to promote motoring and thus tyre usage and sales. They started charging for it and realised people were interested in the restaurant section and so started employing a team of anonymous inspectors to grade restaurants.

Indeed. I thought they made maps before they made tyres, but no, they started with tyres, produced their first red guide in 1900 and their first map in 1910. But before all that, in 1892, they set an example of sports vandalism that would be followed over a hundred years later.http://www.michelin.com/corporate/group/history

That looks like the modern michelin man - he is sort of 'slimline' compared to the original extremely obese version.

That's because he's been cycling.
