RIP Eric Bristow

Ok, he may have sent a very bad tweet once (possibly through stupidity rather than malice), but he was a legend.  Also started Phil Taylor's career.  Only 60.

Darts isn't the most healthy of activities, but 60 is young.
It is simpler than it looks.

Not for a Darts player from that era it's not.  The big names I remember (Jocky Wilson, Alan Evans, Leighton Rees..etc) seem to die around 60.  The ones still with us (Bobby George, Andy Fordham) seem infirm way beyond their years

That suggests the body can take about 60 years of abuse from booze, fags, bad diet, late nights and lack of exercise.  In many ways it's a miracle that the human body can deal with it for so long.

Bristow was a true legend though, identifiable by a nickname alone.
Some people say I'm self-obsessed but that's enough about them.

It takes dedication to be an elite athlete. All that training takes a toll on the body.

TdF cyclists often don't last long, either.  We're designed to chase the odd antelope, not pedal at full aerobic power all day for three weeks.
Hard work sometimes pays off in the end, but laziness ALWAYS pays off NOW.

Too true!

None of the multiple centenarians in my extended family was an athlete...

Andy Fordham

The ultimate yoyo dieter. According to a newspaper story a few while ago:

1982: 13st
2004: 31st
2007: 16st
2017: 24st

Actually it's the other way round.  1982 and 2007 are when he let his training slide.

can't believe he was only 60, seems to have been around all of my life.
