Title: Tour of Britain passes my house
Post by: vorsprung on 27 August, 2008, 04:42:05 pm
The Devon/Somerset stage on the 9th of Sept passes my house

So I will be drinking beer and painting "venga" in the road and stuff like that

If anyone wants to come round they can.  I'm afraid I don't live on a hill so the glimpse of the peleton will be fleeting

Can't you just wander up the hill to the church? Though I don't suppose that'd slow them muchly.

We live on the route of the final stage from Blackpool to Liverpool but I suppose they will all be pootling along drinking champagne and making plans for the after race party.  ::-)

Cor, it's just a half-hour ride away from me too - the Chard-Burnham loop has a sprint in Tivvy near my tattooist.  Gotta go and bellow!

Perhaps we all should traipse up to Dunkery to watch them suffering.

I'm seriously tempted to traipse all the way to Burnham.  That's pan-flat out there, and it'll be a sprint finish, and Cav is playing.

The Central London massive will congregate at the west end of the Embankment, opposite Boadicea (Boudicca?) as we did last time there was a London criterium (and where we saw Cav crash and use some very interesting words when addressing the bloke who caused the crash).

The criterium route looks great!  *envy*

There's a stage starting from Darlington...but I'm tempted to make my way up to the "climb" at Langley Park.

I haven't watched much live racing before (apart from the Milk Race when I was about 4), but I think it'd be better to see it on the road.

It goes over the Quantocks (Bishops Lydeard to Bridgwater via Lydeard Hill, which may be familiar to SW Audaxers)en-route to  the Burnham finish. A mere gnats chuff away from my house.    I sense I'll be 'working from home' that day.  I want to see if they suffer as much as me when they pedal up the flinkin' thing (unlikely, really!)

Might even make a day of it and watch some of it on Exmoor.

Checked the South East section and discovered that Milton Keynes and Newbury are in the South East! Not from where I'm sitting they ain't.

Close to me though!

Looking at the MK start, they head out west on the A421 before turning south.  So if I'm really quick I can see them near the start and then head south west to intercept them again.

The problem is, I'd need to cycle 10 miles in the time it takes them to do 15.  No chance.

I'm planning to take Superstoker to see Stage 1.  He'll be disappointed at no Cav, but that shouldn't be too much of a problem.  Any suggestions as to where would be the best position to get a good view (and not be crushed)
