But... but... the ship was named after the estate agents, not the other way round.

Yeah, so they are the originals.  Actually, isn't Hotblack Desiato the lead singer of Disaster Area, and the ship called summat else?

I thought you all knew - HD (named after the estate agent) was in Disaster Area - the band that crashed the (nameless) ship into the sun as the climax to the gig.

Very, very nice .

That's a lot of headset spacers. Is that to compensate for the height difference between the 2 of you or are they just there to experiment with until the correct 'bar height is established?

What kind of chainset is that?

The headset spacers are there until we're absolutely certain the bars are in the right place.  The chainset is Middleburn, cos I need little short cranks.

Maybe you have to be a cyclist, but I was seriously impressed last year by a cool couple in Cromford on a racing tandem - it just looks so purposeful  8)

Any chance we'll see her on the Pie Run?

The ship isn't nameless!

After long, arduous and selfless research, I have found a reference to it!

At the end of <a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/HXTBu8hK3pQ&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/HXTBu8hK3pQ&rel=1</a>, it is clearly referred to as 'Black Ship'

Er....don't think that helps any... :-\

Except that, in the book, the black ship doesn't get capital letters, so it's not a name, it's a description.

The book is not the definitive version, according to Douglas.  All versions are valid.  And it's not 'the black ship..', it's 'Black Ship...' </also geeky h2g2 pedant>

With those s&s couplings can it be shortened to form a 1 seated bike?(assuming you remove the front cranks)

No, but you could slot an extra piece in to make a triplet!

Re the couplings, I see the S&S jobs but how is the bottom horizontal tube attached?

Have a butchers here

Click on Tandems on the left, then click on Stowaway - there's a picture

Answer:  It's a hex bolt.

Awesome.

Have you got that transport case to go with yours, Charlotte / Liz?

I thought you were joking but after looking at the Santana site I see you're not.  How clever is that?

If me Premium Bonds come up it'll be the first thing I buy.

Only just stumbled across this thread.
Wow!

That's quite a remarkable looking thing.

I never thought I'd have tandem envy.

I don't think you can.  Their triplets can be shortened to make a (slightly heavier) tandem, but the regular tandems don't have the necessary support to just add a section.  It's a nice novelty, but not worth the weight gain (and cost) if you didn't want to ride as a triplet quite a lot.

Yeah, Jasmine's right.  Initially, Liz and I were toying with the idea of a convertible triplet, but they're not nearly as good as a regular tandem when in two-seat mode.

JD have a quad, you know...

A quad! Never been to JD even though Tina came from them. I think I would be scared to visit in case I couldn't drag myself away. The place is probably like Hotel California for cyclists.
