OT Knowledge / Re: Winter conditions - best winter footwear?

TPMB12, How about taking a trip along the A66 to Richmond?... I have a pair of Altberg Jorvik trail shoes. Love them. Great for casual, and not so casual walking.  Half sizes, two widths (my size 10W were stock ). Quicker than boots to lace up when just popping out. Sure not as grippy as a specific winter sole but stiff enough to take well to clip on ice studs.

The buying experience is superb, plus you can see boots being made!

Another reason is I got sick and tired of wearing out Merrill 'technical trainers' inside of 18 months. These shoes I expect to last several years and a few resoles. Not even more expensive. IMO that's VGVFM.

I also brought a pair of Velts for when 'out on the toon'...  Same upper, stiched welt, flat sole.

Another satisfied customer for Billy Bragg, this one at the Grand in Clapham.  Miss von Brandenburg has a copy of the setlist and, thanks to being accompanied by a semi-evolved long-armed munkeh, an early Christmas present in the form of one of Mr Bragg's plectrums.

Thanks!
We'll swap hubs tomorrow.
Our systems aren't simple though. I am immobile, David is unwell. It's cold & wet out.
David has much kit connected both by wire and by Wifi, 30 metres down the garden.

The point of winter boots is the sole rubber is one that remains softer at lower temperatures I believe which means they grip better.  Angle wellies are quite well regarded but AFAIK they don't do winter rubber soles. I have another very good brand of well insulated boots at the same performance of aigl3 boots,  complete with a very good vibram. Great in mud,  wet and OK in soft snow but not older or frozen snow and ice,

My partner has proper winter boots and she can walk normally over frozen snow and most icy stretches. I can't with m my wellies no matter how good they are.

My sister is having a significant birthday next year (one with a 0 on the end of it) so she has organised a family trip to Abba Voyage. Excellent! Not my kind of thing at all, as a rule, but I'm really looking forward to it.

I've just bought tickets for my wife and three of her friends to go for her birthday next summer. I can't believe how much it costs to watch some machinery in action, but there you go. Like you, it's not my kind of thing but I know they will enjoy it.

In fairness, it's not just machinery - there's a live band as well, who are more than competent - and even the bits that are machinery and electrotrickery are quite amazingly well done.

We enjoyed it, but you do know you're at a show not a gig - and no matter how realistically the avatars seem to perform, they still look dead behind the eyes ...

I occasionally wash my paramo in Nikwax wash, but rarely reproof it, because the wash seems to revive the fabric's waterproof capacity pretty well anyway.

Mostly, if it rains, I just stay indoors.

Basically never.
I have had gore one jacket for years, but I generally have one or two layers to contain the sweat.
I did feel that my boil in the bag overtrsouers were risking a pong, so I rinsed them off in the bath.

It's waterproof gloves that are my biggest issue, they tend not to dry without going in the dryer, which then make them not waterproof.
