Ventnor?  I think it's meant to be like that.

Really????

Why do all the electronic maps, estate agents etc., spell it correctly then?

"Ott's Law states that the worst weather will coincide with the worst part (for that weather) of any planned ride"

If you go to Google Maps and search "Chatfeild Road Ventnor" then the Google pin is labelled 'Chatfield', but the Street Name on the map is 'Chatfeild'.

It seems that in many places, people have incorrectly 'corrected' the spelling.

After Vanguard bought the plane, it was dissembled and stored in west London for 20 years.

I'm sure it's just a typo but it still qualifies.

ETA: Later in the article there's this:

The plane now statically flies over the area of the storage facility, with all customers greeted by the remarkable display.
In other words, it's suspended from the ceiling.

Good looking plane though!

There is a place in NZ called Feilding (pronounced Fielding) so maybe it’s an archaic spelling or summat like that.

And I've been there, twice, so it definitely exists like that and is not a figment of Clare's overactive imagination.  Not very often I can comment with any sense on such a question, so I wasn't going to miss that one...

Today’s Tour stage is “taylormade” for Wout van Aert.  I suppose we have to cut the folks behind letour.fr a little slack purely because they’re FOREIGNS from Abroad, but even so…

Not sure whether this is spelling or some other form of muppetry from the BBC:

Californian winemakers are learning firefighting techniques:

Quote
Priyanka French, the head winemaker at the winery, is helping oversee the construction of what will be one of the most fireproof wineries ever built, she says they are only using inflammable materials and will produce most of the wine in underground caves, as a natural form of fire protection.

Flammable and non-flammable will, ahem, inflame tempers but are the only way of making your meaning clear to a worldwide audience.

Oh, the irony: in Sports Direct were items marked as back to school (sorry): Stationary Set.
To be fair, they weren't exactly mobile.

In a previous job, I used to need to regularly complete a form that had a checklist item of "fee payed". Seeing it on official forms always made me double take to check I wasn't the one in the wrong. Apparently no one else had ever queried it   ::-)

Neither Lewis nor Clark were adept at spelling... by Mr Larrington, on Flickr

Captain Meriwether Lewis was so shit at spelling that he couldn't actually spell "dog".

Not sure which of these is correct (pan around a bit), but they're not both right!
