Very sad, he was one of my favourites. I was gutted when Lemond beat him in that final TT that cost him a tour win by 8 seconds :(

But that did make for a great TdF, and was very exciting with him and Lemond so close.  It was probably one of the first TdFs that I watched so avidly, and partially responsible for my resurgence of an interest in cycling (albeit socially and recreationally rather than as a racer).

A great shame to lose him at such an age.
Actually, it is rocket science.
