I've never claimed any and am not sure if I could count the ones I've earned now. I almost got one last year, but never rode a team event. I'm not listed in AUK as having one, but I know that I have earned at least 2, maybe 3 or 4. I dunno?

You won;t be listed u;less you claim - it's not automatic

I dunno if there's a time limit on claiming- since it doesn't say there isn't, I suspect not - but it's an almighty PITA to round up the brevet numbers for all the rides you did to qualify if you didn't keep a running summary.

Probably easier now it's all on the web

I'm not too bothered. I just count the Brevet 100,000s. Well into my second now. ;D

This would be a reason to find the brevet cards I have distributed around the house and put them in a safe place, would it?  :-\

I was very organised in 2001-6 and entered it all on a spreadsheet as I went along :)

Shows how much I know. It must always have been thus.

From elsewhere discussion:

From: Francis Cooke
To:     Pat Hurt
Date: Fri, 1 Aug 2008 17:35:39 +0100

PH> So, if the wording in the the handbook is taken as gospel, then to
PH> achieve a BR25,000 you [all of a sudden (my emphasis)] need a ride of >= 1300Km;
PH> ...

PH> Needs to be definitvely nailed methinks, so [previous/current] awards
PH> chasers know where they stand.

I agree.

A bit of digging reveals that the wording in the hardcopy Handbook
changed, from "another ride over 1200km" to "another ride of 1300km or over"
in the 2003 edition, ie published around New Year '02/'03.

That is on the 'Awards' pages.

However, checking back through old editions of the Regulations, the
wording has stayed constant, as it is now - "another ride of 1300km or more"
since 1997, which is as far back as I checked.

So its the web page which is wrong, having taken its cue from the Handbook pre-2003

NB: Also note from this passim discussion that intermediate distances are floored ; so 1200-1299 all count as a 1200Km...
I'd offer you some moral support - but I have questionable morals.

Holy thread resurrection Batman!

Here's a new Brevet 25000 question for the learned masses.

I have all the 'special rides' ticked off for the award in 2010, but I need another 71 points (this season). No problem, but I won't get there before PBP.

So, can two awards overlap? I don't need PBP, so could I 'ignore' those points and do 83 points this season, thereby saving PBP 2011 for the next 25k badge.

A bit convoluted for sure, and I suspect I already know the answer, but you never know...

I think they can overlap.  You have to get the magic combination in in any 6-year period, so as long as you don't count the same ride twice you can have a new qualifying period start before you've finished the old one.  Each claim is separate and self-contained.

An interesting award which *could* be feasible now the DIY permanents are around. Another subsitution question though, could I use my White Nights 1200 brevet to substitute the 1000k?

Another thread resurection  :o

My 1st counting ride towards the awards was mine & Datameisters LeJoG 1400k that is registered in the results page on the 28/06/2010.

Potentially stupid question

Does that mean I have until the 28/06/2016 to accumulate the required 250 points  ???

Currently on 150 with all the required rides ticked off.
SR 2010/11/12/13/14/15
RRTY. PBP. LeJoG 1400. LEL.

Traditionally yes but there have been some different interpretations of the 6 year limit more recently.

You need a brevet of 1300km or longer. LEL counts.

i have everything for Brevet 25000 now except a 1300km event.

I am now pondering adding a 100k to PBP 2015 to make it into a 1300 so I qualify once and for all.  maybe jonah could do the same

Rather you than me, but if I was adding 100km to the PBP, I'd do it before as I wouldn't feel like doing it afterwards :hand:

oh aye, I'd always do it before not after (my use of "add to" used additions commutative property in maths).  Id probably get the RER out the city to Dourdan la Foret and do a large clockwise loop to St Quentin .

ECEing PBP might arguably meet the letter of the rules but is a fair way from the intent. Just ride something the right length. You've got 6 years to do it.

I did PBP and its qualifying SR in 2015, an SR last year and will probably end up with a bunch of 600s, maybe some 1000s this year in training.

I can't use TABR or TCR because they are 'competitive' but could I arrange some kind of DIY for the 1300k event?
Are there any fast/flat 1300k Perms I should consider? I'm thinking I might be able to use the Easter long weekend to arrange something.
I'd love to be able to bust out the 1000k AND 1300k rides in 4 days but I think that's asking a bit much.

The Fleche thing and any extra points required I can worry about towards the end of the year.

Thoughts/Suggestions?

Great Eastern is a fairly flat 1000 (South Mimms to Scotch Corner and back, it's so flat I even had 3 hours left over) and you can add in another 300km in a loop round east anglia; for an extra 100km I can copy you my 400km loop from Peterborough (on the Gt Eastern route) to Ipswich and back via a different route.  As Peterborough-Ipswich is only 110km it could be shrunk down to a 300 no problem.  Or use somewhere else where you you can leave a drop bag.
fwiw I did Gt E as 540km and 460km (approx), lunch at Red Lodge (then 24hrs) southwards and back for 40 winks in small hours then N to Wetherby B&B, 12 hours break, then did the N-est part and back with a rest of 20 winks perched on a bin near Chatteris (nothing else was available).  You're faster than me though!

You've only really got one go per year for an ACP Fleche thing- in the UK that has to be an Easter Arrow.
Check out the ACP international calendar for what overseas options there are- but you'll probably find they're all Easter-ish. So if you give up Easter weekend for a thou, you've missed your chance.

AUK awards you can also use a Summer Arrow- so if you were to find some similarly paced mates you could knock out a record number of kms. Trouble with that, or course, is that by then there's usually something else you want to be riding- it is the longest Saturday of the year.

I can't find the Great Eastern on the Perm page - is it one of those weird ones like the Crackpot that have to be summoned from the depths? (Presume it's not this: http://www.aukweb.net/perms/detail/SP04/)

A DIY wouldn't work for ACP awards in any case, sadly.
