Title: Quit button stopped working on Vista HCx
Post by: Bianchi Boy on 28 March, 2010, 09:11:11 pm
The quit button on my Vista HCx has stopped working. This makes the unit useless. I have contacted support via the support page provided on the Garmin web site.

Does anyone have experience of returns to Garmin and how good their customer support is?

Will I get it fixed in time to the Brevet Cymru? Or will I be back on route sheets?

Bianchi Boy,

Out of interest, had you uploaded the latest firm ware to your Vista?

I was not aware mine was out of date until I started looking at some of the cool links on the Audax UK website.  I then followed the upgrade firmware link and found mine did require upgrading.

When you mean the quit button, I presume you are referring to ON/OFF button?

The sticky holding the 'rubber band' on my Vista has come rather unstuck and I need to find a suitable glue to restickify it (I'm well out of warranty).

The point of my post however is that the 'buttons' on the outside of the band are not buttons at all but simply 'rubber nipples' which have matching 'nipples' on the inside of the band which activate the real switches. So it might simply be that the band has slipped and your nipples are out of alignment.

Hope that helps.

An ex-GPO pink rubber band serves to hold everything together, I find.  I don't believe the rubbercasing contributes much to the weatherproofing, I think it's largely cosmetic.

The Quit key is the top right one by the way.  Pretty indispensible, I agree!  Good idea about checking the rubber alignment.

I have checked the rubber band and updated the firmware. No change. The quit button is the one on the top right. The micro switch feels like it is working, but just not working.

I have sent a mail to Garmin support and still waiting for reply. Will phone the UK support line tomorrow.

I will update when I have response.
