Surely that was a Malteser?  At least I hope it was!

Thanks to all those that entered. Another epic weekend's cycling through the Pennine chain. Better start with the stats:

67 entered
37 started
29 finished

This was the third edition of the Pendle 600, and the last to start and finish in the village of Pendleton as the event has now outgrown that venue.

The riders set off in the rain although the weather wasn't as bad overall considering what was forecast. Several of them were riding fixed, whilst one attempted the route on an elliptigo.

Stage 1 took the riders through the Ribble Valley and on into the Yorkshire Dales where the riders encountered the first serious climbs of the route between Grassington and Ripon.

Stage 2 was remembered for the 25% and 33% handlebar bending grades of the north Yorkshire Moors national park, and most riders made it to Robin Hood's Bay overlooking the east coast with plenty of time in hand.

Stages 3 and 4 headed more or less directly west before stage 5 catapulted the riders into the wild and exposed moorland of the northern Pennines, with several roads climbing above 500 metres altitude.

Stage 6 was a night-ride along the A686 for most riders, with the climb of Hartside Pass - at 580 metres the highest point of the route -  to climb over on the way to the night control at Langwathby, where there was a "cauldron" of food available, and riders also had the opportunity to have a shower and grab a few hours sleep before tackling the Lake District.

Stage 7 had the climbs of Whinlatter Pass and Cold Fell to contend with on the way to the west coast. Stage 8 was a "Hardknott  Life" for most riders, whilst the last stage passed through the Trough of Bowland but also included the climbs of Jubilee and Cow Ark.

Well done to all the riders who finished and as ever, commisserations to the few who didn't make it. It's better to try and fail than to not try at all. There was just the one reportable accident, and the rider concerned went on to finish the event.

A few accolades from me (that I can remember off the top of my head).

Justin Jones has ridden all 3 events (I think on fixed)! I referred to this as the "triple crown".

Cathy Brown became the first female to complete the event.

At least 4 riders used this as their 600 km qualifier for this year's PBP (there might be more).

Stuart Blofeld attempted the event on an elliptigo but unfortunately ran out of time at 561 km, having conquered the climbs of the Hardkn*tt & Wryn*se Passes. An achievement in itself!

Graeme McCulloch completed back to back 600s (he'd ridden the "Pair of Kirton's" the weekend before).

Glenn Utteridge, a non-member of AUK, completed this event as his first Audax, raising money for charity.

Thanks again to all those that entered, and to Damon Peacock for helping out at the Langwathby control and for filming some of the event. His video's are here:

The event will run again.

Thanks for a great event Andy, this was my second Audax my first being the Mosstrooper 300 a few weeks earlier. I am now bitten by the Audax bug so hoping to get a few more done. Maybe not as tough as this one :)

Thanks Rich...

A couple of faults rectified in the latest edit of the film. There's a qualifier film in all the material I've shot since the Mere 200 in January. The Mytholmroyd 600s at the weekend will resolve a lot of the unanswered questions.

I've written a short report of my Pendle600 (565) experience on my blog (www.ultradiscostu.co.uk)

I knew it was going to be tough and didn't go into this ride thinking any different, and I'm glad that I've found something that was a true test for me and the ElliptiGO! I will be back next year to finish :-) in hindsight 6hrs:20 stoppage time was just too much time not moving forward especially on the ElliptiGO.
Push your limits and never be afraid to dream big. Ignore the naysayers and GO for it!

Since I failed at the first one of these I suppose I must at some point try again. See how I feel after the 1000 Andy is running this summer first.  :o

I am busy that weekend.  I am sure I am.  I will find something less painful to do instead, maybe polishing my testicles with an angle grinder or something?

No, in all seriousness, for anyone considering LEL that year - get through the Pendle and LEL will be a breeze!  Even if you're not considering LEL, the Pendle is one mighty fine 600 that has some magnificent views.

Right! What's next?

Ooooh. That sounds like a daft idea.  I am in!

The event has now outgrown its traditional Pendleton start. The original start venue I had planned for the next running of this event is no longer available. However (there's always a "however"), I'm pleased to advise that I've been able to secure the village hall in the nearby village of West Bradford for the staging of next year's event, set for the weekend of 01-02 July 2017. West Bradford village hall is a large hall just outside the village, about 2-miles north of Clitheroe. There's ample parking space for cars in the adjacent car-park.

The few that have already entered have of course been informed of the change. The event website has been updated and the AUK calendar webpage should be updated shortly.

Are they taking bookings?   ;)

Does the 2019 edition start in Clitheroe or the West Bradford Village Hall?

Trying to plan logistics and now I'm a bit confused about start location.
