Inside Nature's Giants: Hippo.  Nearly finished, but catch it 4+1 at 9pm.

As well as seeing what they look like on the inside, only tonight have I learnt that hippos come out of the water at night to eat, and eat nearly all night.  They're not actually very fat.  Much of the bulk comes from the huge stomach, full of grass.

I've just remembered to catch up on Four in a Bed, quality viewing

I can't believe how some B&B owners get away with charging so much, especially when they have the crap attitude to guests shown by the Rolls Royce driving couple in this week's series.

Well Derek was excellent! Pathos and humour in equal measure. Very enjoyable indeed.

On Wednesday the BBC started a new series - Divine Women - about women in religion. The first one was about pre-historic and ancient people worshipping goddesses as creators and destroyers, and how the goddesses were supplanted by gods, plus a bit about modern goddess worship in India. It was very interesting and I'm looking forward to the next ones.

I was dreading it.  I'm a fan of Gervais and I know there are many haters out there (despite much of his work receiving the highest praise/awards possible).

Then there was "Mong-gate".  I was worried this would add fuel to the fire.

Anyhoo...I also really enjoyed it, my wife and daughter also.  I think AndyK sums it up well.

Watched that yesterday.  'twas dead interesting and presented by the gorgeous Bettany Hughes.  Win.

Her presentation annoyed me. She's too gushy and emphatic.

Leaving the controversies aside and judging the work purely on its own merits...

I found it over-sentimental and under-funny.

I'm half-watching a BBC2 thing about the 70s. It's currently talking about the influx of Ugandan Asians. Before that it was talking about David Bowie and Marc Bolan wearing makeup.

I was also watching that. Makes you realise just how different Bowie and Co where to what else was around then. The bad thing for me, I suddenly find myself on Amazon adding to my ever growing music collection  :-[.
Aso the opening clip showing London and the then working power station on the south bank.
Totp 1977 has been good as well.

watched The Bridge last night, why are these type of things so much better to watch than the crap we get from America, same things happen goodies and baddies and the occasional bit of rumpy pumpy,
The Killing which was on a while ago proved this point (for me any way ) watched the euro version brilliant, watched the yank version gave up before the end of episode one.

Indian Ocean with Simon Reeve on BBC now. I think he did a series 'Cooking in the danger zone' a few years ago which was good, so far this looks good as well.
Anything is better than Top Gear though  :smug:

The Bridge was superb. Not as subtle as The Killing, but more immediately accessible. Great characters - already love the relationship between the easy-going Danish cop and the intense Swedish cop. Another thing that's different to The Killing is the humour - there were some very funny moments. And some very grisly and/or tense moments. Nice line in mysterious subplots too.

The first ep is repeated on BBC4 tomorrow (Monday) night for anyone who missed it, and the second ep is repeated on Tuesday night. Highly recommended.

Did I mention Friday Night Lights already? Cheesy drama about an American high school football team on Sky Atlantic. It's all rather predictable and perhaps somewhat cliched, and probably aimed at a much younger audience than me, but it has real heart. And great characters. And it has completely sucked me in. I'm totally addicted to it, to the point where I really missed it when they skipped a week for the launch of Mad Men (which has completely passed me by). Go Panthers!

The Bridge is turning out to be æxcellent though I haven't figured out where either the heart-transplant chap, the skank who spends her life sitting in puddle smoking or the bloke with the seventies porn-star 'tache fir into it yet.

The Bridge...
(click to show/hide)

I'm intrigued as to how the relationship will develop between Saga and that nice chap she flirted with in the bar. Do I hear the distant tinkle of wedding bells?

Me too! (sorry, only just got round to watching the tape  :-[ ) I was expecting a series, shame.

Far less shoutyness and general irritation than The Office
