Beige, flares and too much hair.  Though some of that appears to be back in vogue currently.

Triumph Dollop'o'shites also came in a seizure inducing 'Pageant Mid Blue'. Usually with brown lace door bottoms. Fuckin' 'orrible!

A chum at skool had a green one, which underwent a radical shortening exercise on the day of our final A-level exams in the form of a head-on with a Transit.  Surprisingly, none of the unbelted occupants was killed utterly to DETH.

Our first family car was a bright red Triumph Toledo - K-reg, which the internet tells me means it was new in 1971. My abiding memory of that car is my legs being welded to the black plastic seats when making the schoolboy error of wearing shorts on a hot day.

I was actually looking for post-1973 vehicular crimes,

Dare I ask ...  Why??

I read it as looking for such vehicular crimes as were later represented by the Morris marina or Austin Alegro......

Last episode of the current series of Inside No.9 last night was an absolute corker - not least because Peter Kay got brutally murdered in the opening minute.

Also starred Felicity Kendal and Fiona Shaw, both brilliant. Many laughs.

I remember the tag-line for the Morris Ital (basically the Marina completely restyled by the ITAL design studios to look exactly like the Marina it replaced) was "More Espresso than Allegro", which was by far the best thing about it.

Which excited young boy could fail to be disheartened by the new Morris speeding through the showroom doors to the shouts of, "It's a f***ing Marina!" *

I once owned a Hillman (Rebadged Talbot) Avenger Estate.  The sound of it rusting would keep me awake at night.

EDIT.  Found this.... it's actually worse than I remember... THE NEW ITAL

Oh shit....it gets worse.. British Leyland  At the end it's like he's answering the question, "What are the worst cars you can name in 5 seconds?"
Some people say I'm self-obsessed but that's enough about them.

My second car was an Ital.  Looked nothing like the Marina, it had a much fatter arse. :)

Awful, awful, _awful_ car.  All the road holding and cornering ability of an unballasted oil tanker in a gale and with a fuel consumption to match.  At 60mph you could see the fuel gauge needle dropping like a stone and despite the fact it had a 1700cc engine you really, really didn't want to try driving it any faster.

The gear box was interesting as well. A massively long gear stick that your waggled about with the hope that you could find the correct gear in there somewhere.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

I missed that there was a new series of Robot Wars until a few days ago, dammit. Luckily it's all available on iPlayer. I do like Robot Wars. It's very silly, and the camera seems to spend too long focused on the crowd rather than the action (although it's much better than the last series in that respect) but sometimes it is genuinely thrilling. This week featured a grudge match between the champions of the last series, Apollo, and the runner-up, Carbide. Both robots have been upgraded since the last series and it made for some spectacular action. Also: Angela Scanlon. Sigh.

Also enjoyed the first episode of the new adaptation of Decline & Fall on Friday. Some reviews have been a bit sniffy about it, but it's so long since I read the book that I don't really have any preconceptions. And I laughed a lot. I now want to read the book again.

Prime Suspect 1973

Period detail nostalgia aside, did you think it was any good?

I didn't.

I'm sort of liking it but don't like the message that having Cracker's DS Penhaligon playing Jane Tennison's Mum is sending me, which is that I am Old.

Well, that went off at right-angles to the book in the final episode, such as having someone completely different wot done the murderin' and having Kath return as a live D/C instead of a dead lesbian ???

Dunno when, but soon(ish).  Another chance to have your assiduously repressed memories of bri-nylon shirts with massive collars brutally dragged into your conscious mind.  Yes,  "Life on Mars" is being broadcast again.  Freeview 20 (Drama).

Advertised in a trailer for new season's programmes a few days ago.

Its all a lesson in concentrating on the job in hand innit?

If the Guv'nor had concentrated on doin a proper murder investigation in the first place, he would have got the result he wanted without the minor inconvinience of getting Blowed Up Sir!

Or something like that.

Must be said that the book of Prime Suspect is one of the dullest I've ever had the misfortune to read.  Zero suspense, zero plot twists, zero imagination.

Not so much an interrogative inflection as an incredulous accusation - like he wants to add the words "ARE YOU MAD?" after every answer.
