So I did spinning from about this time last year to about May - 2 to 3 times a week (45 minute sessions).  I found it made my kegs stronger so I could cope much better when we put the power down on the road to whiz up hills etc.  Also, it did my chest good as well meaning I didn't get so puffed out when the pace was higher.

Not forgetting the indoors bit of course

Have you worked out how to go touring without going outside  :-\   That could really work for you.

That.
Spinning is very CV intensive (or at least as intensive as you want to make it) and builds fitness quickly.  I find a 45 minute session in a spin session is equivalent to a couple of hours hard riding on the road so saves time too.  You can do the same intensity interval training on the road but it can be frustrating when cars and junctions get in the way of your intended  high effort interval  ::-)
I famously combine with body pump which I find complimentary to cycling for leg and core strengthening.  Without my indoor training last year I don't believe I would have had the same strength for riding PBP by just doing miles on the road.

ETA: Indoor training doesn't include Essex Energy Drink refreshments

Fred & Penelope would go like the clappers on rollers  ;)

For anyone interested this will be the route myself and The Hustler will be taking this evening https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/9915116

I also find racing road bikes on your Brompton between traffic lights in that London also builds up leg muscle and lung capacity (however I hate to think what sort of fumes I am breathing in  )

Ah, I can see why OD isn't coming now, that route goes outdoors, in the open air on roads.   It's a schoolboy error.

Maybe we could all go to OD towers on Wednesday nights until the weather improves.  OD could send us on a route that goes in ever decreasing circles via nowhere in particular and wait for us in the warmth.

He really ought to be able to shift himself the short distance that is straight to Totham and back tonight. Perhaps he's on a promise at home.

Something dodgy's occurring Ted  ::-) maybe he is helping Huggy out at Huggy Towers so Huggy can come out to play next week....

You may also have noticed at no point does the route include jumping onto any Greater Angrier services which may also have put OD off!!

Still with this new fitness regime a simple up and over Braxted hill on Penelope would see him join us at the Essex Energy drink feeding station

The above is giving me terrible flash backs to The Cat's last week and the mention of going 'down' on Penelope that could explain it :o

Maybe we need to head along to the leisure centre and watch him complete a spinning class and then ride Penelope home for inspiration

I think you might be mixing spinning up with Dogging there.

It's not a spectator thing where everyone has a go on Penelope.

But it might be if he is planning a trip to Hurrells Doggers Lane on Penelope this evening although he may need to borrow the support van from Huggy  ;D

I shall be venturing out on Penelope this lunchtime, I have some stuff to take to the tip.  Is that sufficiently inspirational?

That would largely depend on what item will be carried in her front tray.... a sofa, washing machine, cuttings from a large tree??

I think the three of you should keep those activities away from Wednesday evenings.

You will bring disrepute to the fine name of MEMWNS.

Stick to whatever evenings you all normally go on.

Frankly no.  We are going to the Essex Energy Drink Dispensary via some beautiful mid-Essex lanes not the municipal refuse facility.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe it has been well documented on here previously that it is you guys that have the fascination with this particular area so much that you like routing rides down there....... I'm fairly certain that it was your good self that posted an article on Facebook regarding the top dogging spots in TOWIE was it not  ???

I'm sorry I'm not being sufficiently inspirational, perhaps a photo will help ...

Here we have Penelope loaded up with a knackered plastic crate and an old duvet which Barry the Cat rendered beyond cleaning by repeatedly puking on it.

Inspired now?

Will OD and Penelope fit under the height barrier? More importantly will they let her in with that flowery seat cover  :-\

So, that's where we've got to with MEMWNS, the godfather would rather cycle to the dump than meet up with us  :o

It's just so very disappointing when those that we look up to turn out to have feet of clay.

Maybe, when the weather improves, we could tempt him back out by laying on some colouring pens and paper so that he can draw penises.

Agreed Ted it's a shocking state of affairs but at least we have Tomsk in regular attendance where would be without him?

I will be out tonight, meeting at Spa road roundabout for 7:30.

From looking back through the thread, destination is the Compasses at Great Totham (N) with a scenic route out.
