Thanks Chris N for the info. Maybe one doesn't need an adjuster pipe with the in-line adjuster? Hmm...

(ii) specific brake levers, which do pull more cable, although I can't remember which brand.  I've seen people be quite critical of these levers though.
If you separate shifting from braking on a drop-bar bike you can avoid many of the brake problems with a tektro brake lever made for classical v-brakes.
I think we are referring to the Tektro RL 520 levers. Some forum members really do like them, see this thread: TEKTRO RL520 V-Brake Levers for Drops .

Historically I've used plenty of gears and brakes with no barrel adjusters or similar, it isn't that difficult to unbolt the clamp, pull a bit of cable through and do them back up.  Admittedly adjusters and the like do make it easier, and hence more likely to be done before it's desperately needed!

Travel Agents come with and without barrel adjusters, obviously the ones with are generally a better idea.
Actually, it is rocket science.
