GN: I'm on holiday ! In Italy, the bus from Pisa is just getting into Florence.

BN: My throat feels like I've been swallowing barbed wire & glass :-(

What's Italian for Strepsil ?

There's a Italian throat spray that On-One used as the name for one of their bikes. Go into a pharmacy and ask for Pompino.

GN: Standing in the lift on Friday I remembered I can claim mileage for my cycle commuting - yay.
BN: I just had to extensively modify my yearly time, mileage & expenses spreadsheet to account for cycle commuting.  The mileage part was already moderately complicated due to the under / over 10k rates, now there's a 3rd rate to account for.
GN: Only a 3rd rate, not a 3rd and 4th thankfully.
BN: The room I've rented is way too close to work to pay for this years n + 1 in the year.

Move further away, then when you're slogging through the rain/ice/wind on the way to work you can think "I'm getting paid for doing this".

BN: I've been slogging away at my desk from about 8 this morning until gone 9.30 tonight to get a job finished...

GN: Hang on a sec, it's it's not the 2nd of March until tomorrow, is it? So in fact I've finished the job a day early?

Supplementary BN: This means I need to fork out for a new kitchen clock that understands the concept of leap years.

Can't you just restart/reboot clock after midnight and shelve that for another 4 years?

I'm actually quite enjoying being a day ahead!

I generally make a habit of deliberately setting all clocks in the house a few minutes fast - I find it helps me get to the station on time for my train, although this is no longer such a concern since I finished commuting a couple of weeks ago. Even though I know the clocks are fast, I find myself compelled to act as if the time they are showing is correct.

It never occurred to me before to set the clocks a whole day ahead but now I'm thinking I might just leave it like that.

Good news -
I found some tiles for sale which were a close enough match (a nice old-fashioned green) to the old ones in our kitchen that they'd do for the wall behind the new sink.

Bad news - not local so I had to get em delivered, which put the price of a couple of boxes up significantly.

More bad news - when the bloke doing the work opened the boxes this morning, the majority were broken.

Good - when I phoned the sellers their customer service person Rebecca was helpful & efficient. She said if I sent photos before 4 pm I could have new ones delivered on Monday - and that's now booked, the photos of the broken tiles being satisfactory. She's requested that the delivery be done using their own transport rather than the 3rd party courier used before.

More good - Matt the kitchen & bathroom man (who's already done a good job on the bathroom, to Mrs B's delight) is happy to come back to finish the job. He'll finish early today, when he's done everything else, & we'll fix the date for the tiling when the new tiles have been safely delivered.

Good news: My new bar and tape have arrived.
Bad news: They arrived at my fiancées house which is 11 miles away.

Good news: I have my daughters this weekend.
Bad news: I'll end up having to endure endless Barbie films.

Good news: they're not actually endless, they just feel that way sometimes. ;)

GN: The dog shelter lady was fairly enthusiastic about me adopting a dog!

BN: Understandably they'd want to see the back garden fenced in properly. From a bit of googling I reckon I won't get much change from about £1500 :(

*wince*

The more I look around, the more I think £1500 might be a starting point. :( Depending on how I join it to the garage I reckon I'm looking at needing about 100-120ft of fencing in total. It doesn't need to be decorative but it does need to be fairly good quality; I sure as hell can't afford to do it again any time soon.

I've been at this abode 16 years and the pre-existing fence finally collapsed last week.
I'd been deferring its replacement but had quotes for this.
Decided to go for it after the collapse as 1) It was necessary and 2) Fence supports conduit for David's observatory.
