BBC 4 had a program about the making of Paul Simon's Graceland album last night so it will still be on iPlayer. Really interesting.

I watched that. Very enjoyable. I think I also watched it the first time it was shown in 1997!

Shame they didn't talk to the likes of Jerry Dammers or Billy Bragg about the more controversial aspects of the album's creation.

The film that did that was called 'Under African Skies'.

Not been watching it. I've long thought Stephen Poliakoff hugely overrated. Every time he does something new for the BBC, they trail it as if it's a major landmark in television but I can't think of anything of his I've seen that I actually enjoyed. Shooting The Past was OK, I suppose.

Anyone else watching the current series of Humans? I thought last night's episode was fantastic, especially the brilliant scene where one of the newly sentient synths goes to confession and asks the priest for guidance on the meaning of life.

I'm sticking with it, just in case.  What is it with the lead character's accent?

Part 2 of Rillington Place, Part 1 is here.

The story of John Christie, a British serial killer from long before the term was coined.

A murky, dreary, wartime London is the backdrop.  Tim Roth, as Christie and Samantha Morton as Ethel his wife, are excellent.

Youtube is what we use instead of telly now, right?

Anyway, this one has all the makings of a proper documentary and may appeal to those with an interest in telecoms infrastructure, manhole covers, GCHQ conspiracy theories (tinfoil hats optional, but not required) and suspicious bungalows:

Planet Earth II (Ep 6/6) - the one about wildlife in towns and cities

The monkey parcour sequence may be the best non-fiction piece of film-making ever made.

Again I say - watch this series if you're wondering whether the licence fee is money well spent.

The monkeys were great but it was the view of Singapore's "Garden by the Bay" that left me speechless.  It was like watching "Avatar".

I found that episode the least satisfying and rather anthropomorphic.  There was no background information - like spreading urban sprawl in India going into the leopards traditional hunting areas, or just how much of a pest urban racoons are, or how much the thieving monkeys cost hard pressed market traders. It was all a bit cosy (though as usual, spectactularly well filmed and edited) and betrayed the fact that it was really an Attenborough voice-over exercise.

Fleabag

A sort of "Peep Show" from a female perspective.  Funny, crude and poignant in equal measure.

Box set of 6 on iPlayer.

With respect:

There is only so much you can fit into 50minutes. I think the background - cities grow, some species adapt better than others - was made very clear, but it's a mainstream family show, not a science paper.

...

or just how much of a pest urban racoons are, or how much the thieving monkeys cost hard pressed market traders.
Those poor city folk, harassed by the natural world like that. Not sure how more info on them would make the thing LESS anthropomorphic.  ???

Dirk Gently's Hollistic Detective Agency on Netflix.
It is surprisingly good. It only loosely follows the book, but certainly captures the spirit of it.
