Jockey wheels
« on: 16 May, 2021, 10:04:42 pm »

I noticed when I went to lube my chain, that my rear derailure and jockey wheels are move covered in gunk than normal. (see picture under spoiler tag). I'm thinking it's time to replace them, and looking at the pictures of what they once looked like, I find myself wondering. Why the fuck do they have all the holes in there? is that just to collect dirt and shite? It's an MTB rear mech, so it's going to be exposed to a lot more dirt and shite than a road bike.

Does anyone make solid after market jockey wheels for an RD-M8050-GS rear mech? Something that is less susceptible to collecting shite from the road.

Added lightness innit.

The basic BBB Roller Boys are solid

As are a lot of the lower end Shimano ones

Which MTB rear mech is it?
The teeth do look nice and pointy!

RD-M8050-GS is the model number. 11 speed Di2 MTB.

I wonder if the ceramic version is worth the money...

Bearing rather than bushing so marginally, I picked up a pair of ceramic bearing Ed aluminium boys years ago because they were on offer cheaper than the bus hinged nylon ones.
Only difference I noticed was in the wear rate

I replaced mine recently.

I did some searches for past threads on here and, on that basis, I got Ultegra ones again.  I can't remember the arguments, but the Ultegra ones have bearings rather than bushings.

Here’s how bad mine got after 12 years

I replaced with Shimano aftermarket ones.

I didn't know the bendy buses were made of nylon. Where would we be with outer correct, eh?

I'm sure all my jockey wheels are sold but there's a confusing array of types.
