This fluffy orange bee.

It is simpler than it looks.

What colour is the abdomen?   I can’t quite see...

If brown and fuzzy, then possibly a brown carder bee.  If black and shiny the quite likely a tree bumblebee.   FoE do a handy quick guide:  https://friendsoftheearth.uk/nature/bee-identification-guide

There was a tree bee colony at a church I visited on my walk yesterday.  A fantastic sight.

I'd wondered if it was a tree bubble bee, but it doesn't have the black abdomen.

It is simpler than it looks.

Well, to be fair, you can only see one side.
It is simpler than it looks.

I reckon that’s  a brown carder bee.  You’re lucky - it’s a rare species.

I can't make it out, but if there's a distinctive deep v-shaped notch in the keel at the front of first gastral tergite it's an Ancistrocerus parietum. If not it's a different Ancistrocerus species. Sorry my cheat page doesn't give a common name. I'm no expert but I'd guess 'wasp'.

Yes, my thought was potter wasp, though that doesn't help a lot  :)

It moved about fairly briskly, and this is all I got of its profile:

It is simpler than it looks.
