so my cheapo 640x480 usb cam is a bit useless and finally broke so looking to get a better cam, from ali express so what should I be looking for?
Do I mean boroscope?

Depends what you want to do with it. I had disappointing results from the sub £20 ones I tried from Amazon. “Straight ahead” the camera was great but when I attached the periscope mirror to look at right angles* it was useless. Was great for viewing the inside of my guitar though; unfortunately the internals of my guitar were purely academic interest.
* was trying to work out which way the joists run in my house by drilling a small hole and poking the camera through.

I bought one years ago, because they were silly cheap. I thought it would be useful for inspecting the inside of frame tubes, but I haven't used it for that.
Trying to inspect under a floor was useless, because the light and focus only works close up.
I think they do ones that connect to a phone/tablet now, which would have been so much more use than lugging a laptop to wherever you want to use it.

One with no sharp edges, and easy to clean, I guess.

If it has a standard USB plug, should be able to plug it into a USB OTG adapter, then connect that to a phone/tablet. So long as your phone/tablet supports USB OTG, and you have a suitable app.
