Essex Friday Night Ride to the Pub
« on: 28 December, 2008, 11:34:13 pm »
I seem to recall that SE Essex was to be the venue for our next soirée and it might have been my call to do the organising.

Fatters, you are the key man here: when is your next Friday off?

We could do the famed Paglesham Run. This Classic traditionally involves pints in
  • The Golden Lion, Rochford
  • The Cherry Tree, Stambridge
  • The Royal Oak, Stambridge
  • The Shepherd & Dog, Ballards Gore
  • The Punch Bowl, Paglesham Church End
  • The Plough & Sail, Paglesham East End
followed by a madcap dash back to Saarfend for a curry.

For medical reasons, I reserve the right to drink halves / ginger beer. The curry is clearly an optional extra.

The last train allowing a return to Chelmsford / Witham would be at 23.12 from Rochford. I'd say a 7.30 start at the Golden Lion would be necessary to allow for half an hour per pub and plenty of time back for the train. The curry would be for another night. I'm not as young as I used to be.

I'll tentatively suggest Friday 16th Jan for this nonsense.

Crickey! That could get messy! Obviously I'm in

I think any slow/not wanting to get drunk drinkers should be forced to drink halves. There's nothing worse on a pub crawl when everybody has finished their pints and a couple of stragglers are going "Hold on! I'm not even half way yet!".

If it's the usual suspects, this will not be a problem   :P
Those wonderful norks are never far from my thoughts, oh yeah!

This will be good for me.
And I'll accept the derision heaped on me by bobb for not drinking too much on this ride.  :P
And another thing, it'll probably be the day I become a slaphead again!

First of all, I wasn't heaping any derision on you! And secondly, you're a permaslaphead anyway  :P

Edit: Del with hair would be almost as amusing as Wow sans beard!

Chaps, I hate to be an old kill-joy, but a family commitment last Friday has buggered this coming Friday for me (I had to postpone a coaching session). I won't be available until 8.30.

Can we put it off a week?

Oh, I had forgotten about this one. So you're now proposing the 23rd? I think I can make that.

I wonder if I could make this one.  From where to where?  Would driving to the start and then riding be appropriate?  I am not a drinker but would make do with a coffee or three.

The original plan was here to here and back to Southend. It's about an 18 mile round trip from my place. You'd be welcome to kip here if you wanted to.

I've just come over all sweaty and queer - I nearly missed this thread!  That wouldn't do now would it?

I am in for the 23rd.  I shall cycle down from Witham and then tootle off to the Outlaws at Ashingdon for the night.  They will be pleased!  I had better clean up my act.  My normal post pub ride behaviour may not be appreciated by the Mother in Law.

Boing!
Now that we've had time to get over OD being all sweaty and queer would it be better to meet at Rochford station rather than the Golden Lion?

The ride is tomorrow night.  I'm excited.  Two questions:

1. When and where are we meeting?
2. Would it be appropriate for me to bring pickled eggs or have we moved on?

Oops, that's three questions.  Sorry  ;D

1. I suggested the station but the first pub is not far away, clicky, being somwhere on North St. but before Weir Pond Rd.
1(a) see 1.
2. I think we've moved on but YMMV.

Cool.  I will wait to see what other people think about meeting places.

I forgot about those. In that case I'll get the eggs in.

There is a good chance that owing to a local commitment that afternoon, I shall be able to attend this.

I don't have any red carpet to hand but I will roll up the scummy off-cut currently on the garage floor and bring it with me.  You will be the first lady to attend one of these events so I think we need to mark the occasion accordingly.

Very much Brommie country, with short distances, on flat and smooth roads. Might get to all of 10 miles.

I'd say meet at the station. What train will you be on, OD?

He's forming a coalition with Sooty and Zippy as he doesn't want to be seen as a sock puppet.
