Having documents read to you
« on: 31 October, 2009, 08:22:35 pm »
I'm dyslexic and friend, who's also dyslexic, showed me one of his ways to overcome these issues, which is to get his Mac to read out aloud to him. This would be very useful for me, especially when writing documents in OpenOffice. Doing some google work shows me there's a variety of software that offers this feature, but before I start installing a variety of files on my machine, does anyone have any recommendations? Or even software to avoid? If it makes any difference, I'm running Ubuntu 9.04. Ta.
What on earth am I doing here on this beautiful day?! This is the only life I've got!!

I don't think you need the extension. Ocra is part of Gnome and is supported by OpenOffice and you should be able to enable it to read your documents to you.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.
