I think we've had female doctor lobbying ever since the first "modern" doctor stood down (was it Ecclestone?? It seems aeon ago now ... )

Dawn French is always in the frame.

I've absolutely nothing against the idea, if they find a good 'un. It's unlikely, but no more so than Brexit/Trump, and will happen before a female Bond.

My actual Doctor is FEMALE so it's not such a leap.

I've just realised how badly I phrased that - I did NOT mean that it would be hard to find a decent female actor for the part! I meant that they are unlikely to try.

Well my hero will always be Tom Baker but that's time and place and I have no particular internal gender assignment for The Doctor. Far more important is the actor and decent plotlines, I could see Dawn French fitting the role very well.

I haven't really watched since my kids stopped watching, funnily enough they were a bit put off by Matt Smith whereas I preferred him to David Tenant. I did dip into Capaldi a couple of times and he didn't resonate for me, a bit like Ecclestone. I can't find fault with their acting chops, so to speak, but I've never enjoyed their acting in this or other things.

But plotlines, even my kids were getting sick of the endless save the universe nick of time schtick.

They film it in our building often but I rarely get this close to him. He was rehearsing his lines. Also had some guys in typical solider type costumes with guns guarding it when I walked out before returning to this scene.

(not that I watch it either really these days - I see it in real life being filmed more often
