Have finally caved and fitted mudguards to my bike. I've gone for Crud Roadracer MKIII. The front fit fine, no issues. But on the rear, the extension bit that would protect the front mech and chain rings, if I try to cable tie it to the down tube, this section touches the moving part of the front mech. I can't see a way of making this bit fit. There's plenty of room round the tyres for it, but I just can't get the thing to not interfere with the front mech. I thought I had an option of tying it to the chainstay, but that rubs against the rear mech cable.
Has anyone got any suggestions on how to fit this section? I've run the last year without guards, so it's not a major issue if I don't fit it, but given it's in the box, I'd like to at least try...
Second up, the fluff strips. What are they for? I've fitted them in line with the rim, as per instructions, positioned such that they just don't rub. But I'm not sure I've fitted them right. Any pointers?

could you not use a spacer of some kind (eg a piece of synthetic wine bottle cork) to bring the mudguard away from the seat tube/FD at the point it is zip-tied?
The fluff strips are either part of the velcro (they call it 'duotec' or something) or they may be rubbing strips as per earlier incarnations of crud mudguards; earlier versions were so floppy that the mudguards came with little rubbing strips (pilestrips) or fluffy pieces (dampers) so that they rubbed on the brake tracks or the frame (quietly) not the tyre (noisily).
