I think it always was. It's just that you didn't see every second of it on TV like now. It was cycling journalism that was brilliant and exciting.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Yup.

Then again, my cat would be a better Bond than Roger Moore. He looks great in his dinner jacket, likes to charm the ladies, and is a skilled killer.

Watching the traffic on the M25 is more entertaining than watching Formula 1 racing. 
Or vice versa, but not by much.
