How to fit a seat clamp/collar to a carbon bike.
« on: 15 December, 2023, 01:22:34 am »
Have replaced the seat collar on the carbon bike as before the was a quick release type affair and the seat post kept slipping so I bought some carbon assembly paste and a new clamp. Now I'm wondering how to fit the clamp.

Is the clamp fitted so the open areas match, or should they open ends be at 180 degrees?

Any idea of what nm to tighten the seat bolt?

1. I’m not sure it really matters but I would put the open ends 180 degrees apart
2. Unless otherwise marked, start at 5nm and if the seat slips then increase gradually.
(Carbon assembly paste is just grease with bit of sand mixed in)
I am often asked, what does YOAV stand for? It stands for Yoav On A Velo

Generally the open areas would match, ie both be at the rear, but I'm sure opinions will vary. 5-7Nm torque should do it.

Usually the gaps line up but have a look at the photos on the manufacturer’s website and match what they show.

Most use plastic beads, some use sand.

In the end I smeared the seat post with carbon paste.  Place the clamp with the gap in the clamp matching the gaping the frame.

Went to 7nm ish and the post holds fine.
