Milton Keynes Blue is surely just a posh term for Concrete Grey?

And isn't teal just usanian for turquoise? and vice versa, of course.

For years I thought teal was HTML for grey.  Then I noticed the RGB value.

(#008080, making it straddle the line between blue and green.)

I know "teal" as the Windows 95/98/NT default desktop colour. Not sure *why* I know this, having never owned such a contraption.

ETA: Probably drooling over early WinCE/PocketPC handhelds with their glamorous colour screens. For about 20 minutes before the battery died.

I am so sorry! I should have guessed that. I will never use that word again!

How about Cyan? The only time I've ever used that was when pissing about on a ZX Spectrum!

But seeing as we indeed don't need to give colours names, I'd say Makita is #0C8190 or rgb(12,129,144)

Cyan's a classic Ceefax colour that looks white on all but the most badly-adjusted CRTs.  Apparently people with normal colour vision don't see white as cyan, which gives them superpowers when it comes to determining who's speaking in the subtitles, and playing Spectrum games.

I once got London Midland to fix the firmware on their ticket machines so they weren't using white-on-cyan (or possibly the other way round) for the text entry box when you collected booked tickets.

Bobb, that sounds like you are guessing. I don't want to dampen anyone's enthusiasm for an ongoing discussion but maybe you didn't read the linked page in my reply, no. 7 on page 1.

Guilty! I didn't follow your link I'm afraid  :P

Edit: I have now though :)

Cyan, AFAICT, is jargon used only by physics teachers and printers. But it's just as well they do, because who wants tealide poisoning?

There's no guarantee our individual brains see colours the same anyway. We learn what to call the colours and that is all that brings us into line.

Could we hurry up and finish this debate about what is frankly an unappetising colour, suitable only for Aunty's Handbag, and move on to Battleship Grey? There are many more variants to stroke one's chin about, and we could post more interesting pics. Behold, the USS Texas.

I think this would make a nice bike colour, especially if you added the below-the-waterline sections.

You'd only have to get the skutters to re-paint it all in Ocean Grey...

I prefer Makita blue/green/teal/turquoise/cyan to battleship grey. I do quite like the subaqua(!) lead-oxide red though.

I thought of teal as being a light greenish navy blue but turquoise/cyan being rather lighter.
Isn't teal a shade of duck plumage?

It's colour I like...

The name of the colour apparently comes from that of the duck.

AFAIK what we call duck-egg blue, the Leftpondians call it Robin's egg blue, a Robin's being a very different bird over there

This is how a battleship should be painted:

I was wondering whether you could reasonably do that to a bike, but then you'd have no excuse for a SMIDSY.

Is it Diver300 who has a Brompton wrapped in that dazzle vinyl wrap stuff they use to disguise new cars before they're launched?

Makita comes in all colours but over here the modern stuff is closer to teal for standard pro stuff. Older stuff is closer to blue. They also do ranges in black, white, red, brown etc.
