I may try for an intercept somewhere on route.

= Barnston; Pleshey; Howe Street; Little Waltham; Boreham; Colam Lane, Little Baddow.

My brother can't get to Margaretting until about 1100-1115, so I will probably be by the salt bin around 1200, if that's not too late.

Can I spy a Lincoln bus stop kip in the timings into and out of Lincoln southbound. About an hour?

Nowhere in Lincoln, as I recall, Phil - bus shelters all full and benches too dewy!

Had lovely time in the sun watching other people make a lot of effort and cheering them on (Ride London Classique, for those that weren't paying attention).
Top notch cakes & coffee at café ramblas too  ;D
Not to mention a beer festival down the road afterwards
And a descent of TMNH on the way back
Any fool can admire a mountain.  It takes real discernment to appreciate the fens.

Yes indeed, a splendid day out with a bit of cycling (spectating and a mere 47 miles for the Dunmow Peloton), lots of cake (thanks again Grey Sheep), good company, wall-to-wall sunshine and beer!

Soupy had a mechanical on the way home, on the cyclepath through to Admiral's Park: rear mech just caught the spokes = slightly bent mech, though the wheel survived ok. Singlespeeded it to limp home, then to cap it all he had a Bonk Royale, so down to a crawl, staggered into the Spotted Dog at Bishops Green for full-fat lemonade and a helping of chips. Final four miles at double our previous speed!

Ah! I got lost but we managed to see some of the ride and had a few beers with a good day out in the sun!

Looking for bike friendly route from Hatfield Preverel to Meteor Way, Chelmsford. Looking to ECE Windmill audax event this Sunday.

Wish to avoid A138 to central city, preferable with shortest detour but not essential for road bike. No COR please.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Evening all,

I have just been reading about the Tourdax plans in Arrivee - sounds terrific, wish I could join in the fun!

Seeing that you go through Gamlingay - in case it's useful information, there is a good place to fill up water bottles at the Eco Hub: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/52%C2%B009'07.7%22N+0%C2%B011'26.2%22W/@52.152131,-0.19061,18z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m4!3m3!8m2!3d52.152131!4d-0.19061?entry=ttu
Go into the drive for the Eco Hub, and the water station is just on the left, by the rather nice Greensands bench and bike parking. If the hub is open then there are convenient conveniences there too. Apologies if this is already in the route sheet, just thought it might be useful info!

Having been mostly running this year planning to start doing some riding, having realised two things one that something I've committed to makes me train more and also the calendar fills up PDQ are the dates for the ACME winter series available yet?

We're working on it - in fact ACME are getting started early for the whole 2023-24 season. I'll be sorting my events out next week, once this (Flatlands) weekend is over. Be good to see you back with the peloton.

That was the finale of the inaugural "tourdax" series heading to the 'spoons arrivee.

Sad loss of a great cafe venue, due to the incredible ignorance of a cyclist, and some others.

Ignorance is no defence for any of the behaviour outlined in that statement .  Ignorance does not wilfully risk damage to other peoples’ property for starters.

That's very sad - Andrewsfield was something of a local institution. Much used by us, especially when the children were young.

The Cyclist in Sudbury now has a ‘To Let’ sign outside.

Anyone considering a change of career ?

It's funny if not a bit sad you mentioned this, last week found myself wondering what had happened to them and perusing out of date social media.

Andrewsfield has for years been fighting a rearguard action against both unauthorised (and sometimes very stupid) visitors, and the CAA who were unhappy with the degree of unsupervised access allowed. I understand the airfield (like many) is also fighting the prospect of disappearing under housing development, so the last thing they need is negative publicity.

The Cyclist (formerly the King's Head) has been closed for nearly 2 years now. It never really took off as a cyclists' cafe, sadly, as the location is not exactly a great place to be. Even as a local pub it struggled - and it was the last of several in Ballingdon. It was given planning permission for a change of use to retail, offices and holiday accommodation in 2021 but obviously that hasn't come to pass either.

Ahhh, that is sad. They used to let their windmill on AirBnB - we stayed there on family cycle tours a few times (it's a nice ride from home, and then good for a day trip to Kentwell Hall). The kids always loved staying in the windmill. Really lovely guy, we had hoped the new ideas for The Cyclist would go well.
