Does that mean that those of us approaching at sensible o'clock from a Huntingdon direction in a motorised manner might be better off on a cyclist-style back-roads route for the final approach to Mildenhall?

All approaches to the Barton Mills roundabout are subject to delays - it all depends what manner of mayhem is going on in the roadworks further North. The roundabout itself is single file - rather than two lanes.

I'd imagine peak times on the BH weekend, it'll be slow going.

Righty.  Will come in via Freckenham and avoid that bit entirely, then.

Have fun guys. Remember it's the law that it always rains at Mildenhall*

Also remember not to eat at that awful 'N Thai Sing' restaurant where they messed up all our orders, blamed us, served portions of rice smaller than my fist, and threw the menus at us. Charlotte/Julian/Phil/RichForrest will remember.

We are all packed and ready for the ride over tomorrow morning.
Hopefully arriving around 4ish. 6th year in a row for me (I think?!) and Dawn's 2nd.
Route sorted for the ride back via Norwich, Sheringham, Downham Mkt and St Neots. Weather booked and should be a good ride round over 4 days

We've packed some stuff, and placed SPD shoes in prominent places.

I've said it before, but car camping is much more confusing than cycle camping, as you can't just make sure the right panniers have the relevant things in them.

Looking forward to this, the ride and the company. Apparently we may have a repeat of last year weather wise on Saturday tho' but. Curry on Friday sounds really good::-) Didn't realise you were in MK Rich. Have not had a chance to look at my camping kit so will all be a bit last minute.

Little wheel and I are currently hot footing it down the M6 having completed a little tour of the Outer Hebrides and other bits of the Western Isles. We plan to be at Mildenhall on Saturday afternoon, and look forward to catching up with fellow YACFers  that evening.  Having drunk all the whisky we had previously purchased, a stop off at a supermarket will be made.  Can't guarantee transporting the liquor in an Innocent juice bottle a la AndrewC though............

Jan and I will be leaving Marks Tey at about 11.30 and following this route:-

http://www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php?lnk=http://peter.chesspod.com/routes/eastanglia/mkt-milden.gpx

We will be on the tandem. I had considered having lunch in the King's Head, Pebmarsh, but it seems that that pub is no more. The Pheasant, near Gestingthorpe, seems a bit poncey and overpriced so we will probably potter on towards Clare and, if they are still serving, go to the Bell, which starts a beer festival tomorrow. There is also a tea room not far away which is a good substitute.

We can play the ride by ear, as it were. If we are really getting pissed off with the rain we can turn right a mile or so after Hartest and go straight to Hawkedon and the pub.

Trivia time:  Which famous tall cycling person lives in Hartest?  (Clue: his bike spent a long time locked outside Canterbury Cathedral)

I'm having a think about the ride I'm organising.

The forecast for tomorrow is wet. The forecast for Sunday is dry and sunny.

What would the ramifications be if we switched the ride to Sunday instead?

I'm just asking at the moment. My plan is still to do the ride tomorrow. If there is an overwhelming demand for change I'll consider it, but of course that would be no good for people coming from outside the rally to take part. They need to know.

I suspect a couple of people, maybe more, from this household, would ride out to meet you for a sandwich/beer.

I'd be up for doing your ride if you changed it to be on the Sunday. My plan for the audax is to look out of the window on Saturday morning. If it's lashing down, I'm afraid I won't be taking part. It's meant to be sort of fun, isn't it?!

Would the pub need to be booked for a big group on a Sunday? or would it just be CAKE?

Will be there sometime this afternoon (Friday).  Booked into the Travelodge though and hoping to ride the 200k tomorrow but will depend on the weather!

Will put my (purple) YACF jersey on and look forward to meeting others at the Rally Ground

Currently in a rather wet West Wales.  We have decided not to bring this weather over to you.
We're stopping here to ensure the rain stays here too.  Basically, we're taking one for the team.

Have a good week end all.
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.
