60year-old has heart attack. Now stable.

Stable doesn't necessarily mean going to be ok.

It is 2016 after all   :o

That one does sound a little callous, looking back. Obv I wish her well.

I suppose it was more a whinge about celeb culture - "60yo quite ill but stable" would get a lot less coverage than the enormous bandwidth that this incident has generated. I'm sure it's pretty massive f**king news within her family and friends  :-\

TBH when I saw it it i thought this was another for 2016. So I do hope she is stable and she does pull through. 60 is no age.

I agree with her but I am no spring chicken and think that people DON'T need to eat all the time.

Our local arthouse cinema has a pretty reasonable "plain water only" rule.  It's lovely, as the floor isn't sticky and it doesn't stink of popcorn.  They also focus the projector properly and run the amplifiers at 10, so it doesn't distort during the explosions and car chases.

As for theatres, isn't eating/drinking (and the traditional queueueueueueueueing for the loo) what intervals are for?

I'd like to introduce hungry weasels to the eyeballs of the person who thought that nachos and crisps were a good idea to eat at the cinema. Hence the constant crunching through every quiet bit of the movie. IT'S WHY CHRISTOPHER NOLAN MOVIES ARE SO LOUD. And the delightful squelch of sitting in a congealed puddle of salsa and cheese food substitute. Crunching through a flurry of popcorn was bad enough.

It would be fine if people ate through the really noisy bits but they don't. They sit there bug-eyed through the crash bangs then rustle and crunch in the bits when you are supposed to use your branes.
It is simpler than it looks.

I just don't go to the Cinema any more.

Fully grown Adults grazing on fast-food, the distracting glow from mobile phones, the constant, "Why did they do that?", "Who's he?", from confused Girlfriends.

I can wait until the Bluray is £10 and watch it on my TV (which doesn't seem any worse quality than the cinema).

The only time I approve of eating during a film is at Raleighwood (Raleigh, North Carolina) where the cinema is also a Diner.  I watched "Pulp Fiction" there 3 times.  It was a perfect way to watch Travolta and Thurman, in Jack Rabbit Slims, whilst being served a tasty Burger in Raleighwood.  100% Americana experience.
Some people say I'm self-obsessed but that's enough about them.

And mostly this.  Have you seen how hard it is to find showings of English-language films with subtitles?  Well, a lot easier than it used to be, thanks to http://www.yourlocalcinema.com/ but you'll soon find that the only showing is while you're at work or in some horrible retail park on the other side of town, and there's still about a 50% failure rate for the subtitles actually appearing when you get there.

Watching at home where you control the sound, the subtitles, have a pause button for nipping to the loo, and can watch on a smaller screen at close range, thereby avoiding the need for glasses, is usually the winning proposition.  It's only usually worth going to the cinema if there's something above and beyond the film itself (eg. a Q&A with the film makers) or you're desperate to avoid soilers.

I only the Imax where it's a bit of a spectacle and most people have paid enough to focus their attention on the screen rather than checking FB every 10 ms or feeling an urgent need to phone a friend. On the few occasions I get dragged the multiplex it's always been a bit grim, like watching a big telly in a dirty living room. I'd rather wait for it come out on disk or streaming, for a start my living room has better beer (seriously, Amstel or Heineken, you spoil me!).

Outdoor cinema can be fun, but only if the weather is clement. I went to one of those secret cinema things once which was OK, but everyone seemed to be trying a bit too hard. I will enjoy this. It is the best thing ever.
