Lucky it didn't set fire to the house.

No chance of that.  It's not one of they new-fangled automatic things what you just load up and walk away from, but a proper twin-tub where you have to stand over it and do things, so I was there when the smoke belched out.  The serial number shows it was made in 1952 so it hasn't done too bad.

Unfortunately a new motor will cost nearly half as much as getting a "new" reconditioned twin-tub from teh intarwebs.  Fix or replace? Either way, it ent gonna be cheap :(

Oh, they used to be RNID or the Deaf Society or something. I had assumed they were UK-wide.

RNId have become "Action on Deafness" or in my universe "What?".

There is also a 'Deaf Action' charity in Scotland which is not the RNId.

Deaf society is probably National Deaf Children's Society (NDCS) who were good to my parents when I was young and seem to be continuing.
I saw a poster about Deaf Action the other day, in Brizzle, which may not be an ordinary part of the UK (!) but is definitely Not Scotland.

Why, pray, is there no fast train line out of Lowestoft? It took me 6 hours to get home from there to Stafford last night.

Oh and Virgin Trains, the choice of only chocolate cake in first class both going and returning from London this week is just not good enough as it is no choice at all. I had to turn down cake!!! Chocolate cake is horrible and nasty: as is chocolate.

Poo. I took MFWHTBAB for a bike ride on Sunday, and as we went over the Stamford Bridge viaduct, I thought, "oh, I'll show him the fantastic spooky empty Scooby Doo house half hidden behind the trees, the one even CrinklyLion hadn't spotted until I showed her".

They've knocked it down.  :( The size of the pile of rubble is testament to how big it was. It was a magnificent place, ought to have had bats coming out of the turrets and everything.

........... the wasp which got into my helmet, couldn't find a way out so promptly stung me.

Or I suppose I could rant at myself for not being able to remove a helmet while cycling uphill before the wasp could attack.

Who ever is to blame, please stop it as it hurt so much that I had to cut the ride short and head home. I still have the bump on my head 20 hours later!
That happened to me last week. I had no time to react , the sting was almost immediate. After a stop I managed to continue my 'pleasure' ride slowly , but some pain and slight swelling lasted a couple of days.

I was at a job fair the other week (minimum wage fodder, as it happens) and I felt a wriggling in my top. I ignored it, but it wriggled higher & higher and I was finding it hard to concentrate. Eventually, I located the offending thing and gave it a good squeeze through my top and felt it pop. End of story. It was only when I later got out into the foyer that I got the chance to shake it out, whereupon a dead wasp fell to the floor. How the hell I wasn't stung is a mystery.

It either got there on the ride to the fair or it was there from the top having hung out on the line.

Elder Ms AWL's Friend's Mother: Your timekeeping is pathetic. Every time I have organised something involving you you have let us down/kept us waiting by being stupidly late without calling to tell us. So, we now reluctantly have to leave our 12-year-old daughter at the swimming pool (where she was earlier already at her swimming club) to wait for you as my son has his friends coming round at 3pm and you can't keep to agreed timetables AND not tell us. Cow.

:)

I failed to manage to offload captaincy of a league team which, to be honest, I don't really have the time to do the organisation for any more...  I'm just rediscovering how long it can take to find 8 people willing to travel for a match.

(I think my record last season for people called before I got a full team was around 30.  That pretty much exhausted the active, eligible (i.e. not seeded for other teams) players of my club!)

I enjoy the playing (and for the most part don't mind the on-the-night aspects of running the team) it's just the chivvying up a squad that drags.
